The naval officers, watching the fights between the Russian and the Japanese warships, saw that most of the work was done with the g reat twelve-inch guns. The vessels will carry a number of small rapid-fire guns to repel torpedo-boat attacks. The huge guns are carried in four turrets, two in the front and two in the the rear. These turrets turn so that the guns can sweep the sea on both sides in the front and in the rear. The Ships are each 450 feet long. 80 feet wide and of 16,000 tons of displace ment Powerful engines will drive them through the water at a speed of 18 V,' knots an hour.
