McKenie consideration $340 and the
160 acre farm of W.S. McMillan of Star
koy to Walter Pierce. It is . understood
that the Utter sale is the begining of an
extensive irrigation project and this lard
will be used for reservoir purposes. Those
who are familiar with the location say
that this site will permit of large reservoir
that can be stored and used when needed
during the irrigation season. The value
of the waters of Grande Ronde river are
just begining to be realized and Walter
Pierce is simply using his usual business
foresight. He i a doer and we are

Residents on Main street have bean
annoyed by petty thievery during the last
week. Mrs. A Newlin's residence was
first visited, inasmuch as when Mr. New
lin wanted to sprinkle his lawn, the nose
was minus a nossle. The loss of course
was a trifle and no attention was paid to
the disappearance. A few days after
wards A. A. Roberts discovered that the
no.sle of h,s hose was also missing. It is
thought that some mischievous bays are
the perpetrators.
THRESHER BURNS
The big threshing machine of
Whealdon. Wheeler and Aiatford. near
Plamveiw. was ruined by fire Saturday
evening, and the loss will be over $1000.
This is the first accident of the kind in
Linn county this year.

er, the most extensive melon raiser in
this section, expressed it when asked about
the crop this year. , A little more than
half a crop is the estimate he places on it.
Last year he shipped fifteen carloads of
watermelons, each car averaging 1600
melons. This was about three-quarters
of his entire crop, which was good last
year. The intensely hot weather has re
duced the yield this season. The same is
true of cantaloupes as reported by A.
