brought out in the evening's discourse:
DO IT HOW!
Do you know a heart that's sad?
Does God whisper: "Make him glad,'?
Do it now ! I
Your time alas! may be too late;
r-ray, men, ao not hesitate
Speak today the message reeded
Trusting that it will be heeded

SUffRAGISTS IN ENGLAND
Oregon is not the only place where the
woman suffrage question is agitating men
and women, nor is the United States the
onl country. Over in England it is the
rage among certain classes of women
and the Carrie Nation typs is not lacking
Ths question has been discussed on Brit
sh soil for half a century, but has been
very lively in recent parliamentary elec
tions.
The daily news dispatches tell of wom
en lodged in jails, and of properties sold
under the hammer, because the "suffrag
ettes refuse to pay taxes so long as they
are not allowed to vote. They are also
arrested for disorderly conduct, for resist
ing officers, and for disturbing the peace
of citizens, and when arrested they refuse
to give bail. A favorite method of secur
ing notoriety seems to be that of parading
backward and forward all night before
the homes of prominent government offic
ials. The aim o ail this is. of course, to
make it appear that they are martyrs to
the cause of womanhood and to excite
sympathy as a help to their cause.
American women abroad are frequently
criticised for beir.g leud-voiced and man
ish in their ways. But American women
at home have never mixed in the hurly
buriy of practical politics as English
wives and daughters frequently to the
parliamentay e'ectior.s. And nowhere :n
the United Stales have we ver had a

A projected railroad line that is crei t-
ing much comment in e stern newspapers
is to run from New York City to Chicago.
It will be an air line, reducing the present
shortest line of 915 mile to ?6C miles.
The great feature of the proposed line is
the fact that it is to be operated by elec
tricity, the cars to have an average speed
of 75 miles per hour.
An Amhert professor says the men of
the future will be a raceof weaklings if
present educational me hxls are not chant
ed. He insists that there must be more
manual labor and 'ess book work. If he
can persuade anybody to work with his
hands, simply for the purpose of giving
some future man a strong constitu
tion he will be entitled to all the medals
available and a bas relief, at least.
