STILL ANOTHER LINE
Another trans-continental railroad was
launched upon an innocent and unsuspect
ing public this morning.
This is the Mid-Oregon & Eastern
Railway Company whichjpropoeses to run
a line from Portland over the Cascades
through tne eastern and central Oregon
empires and to the Snake rive and on in
to the states of Nevada and California.
Incorporation papers were filed to-day
n uie oiuce of secretary ot stale, i ne
men in the articles probably mere figures
heads are David Leppert. C. H. Monroe
and L C. Tobias all of Portland. The
capital stock of the company is $13,000
000.
Tha route proposed is not definitely
iven in the articles of incorporation but
the statement is made that, the iine will
cross the Cascades at some convenient
and so throush central Oregon to the
Snake river, making connections with
other trunk and trans-continetal lines into
the states of Californ.a, Idaho and Nevada
It is inpossible in this city to ascertain
what interests are behind this proposition
It is known that the Could interests are
building a road from Utah lo California
paralleling the southern Pacific and com
ing to the California line only a few miles
north of Reno. The same combination
has a line running from Reno north in
Modoc county and it is possible that the
same interests are behind this plan.
While this may be only a "paper road"
the incorporators evidently expect to get
some fun out of it as they put up over
$200 in the coin of the realm to pay the
state of Oregon for the incorporation
papers. Pendleton E. O.

The number of marriages registered in
Ireland in 1904 was 22.961 The excess
