San Francisco July 19 -Big forest fires
have bean raging eight miles north of the
Calaveras river, for the past sixteen
hou-s. The big Calaveras trees famous
the world over are threatened, as the fire
is covering many thousand acres. Citi
zens are fighting heroically as the loss to
feed and timber land is heavy.

Penmar, Pa , July 19 -The seventeenth
annual reunion of the Reformed Churches
of Pennsylvania. Maryland. Virginia. West
Virginia and the District of Columbia, is
being held here today. The attendance
is unusually large. At the meeting this
afternoon. Judge George Kunkel. of Har
risburg. and Dr. J T. Hacker of Roanoke,
Va.. will deliver addresses. The Mercers
burg Academy Glee club and a chorus
from the Woman's College. Frederick
City, Md., will funish the music of the
day.

their statistics which will cover a period

Boaver Creek Ky. July 19 -Dick Hall
and Jack Thornberry. feud leaders, were
assinated from ambush today as they
rode over a mountain trail, Thoy tried
to return the first volley but the second
one killed both. The two men have been
leaders of rival families that have been
fighting for yjars. During the cast year
there has been peace between the two
parties. John Thornberry married a
member of the Hall family and his fol
lowers declared thereby he had betrayed
his clan. The killing has resulted in both
sides equipping thsmselves for strife and
each side nas mustered about forty men.

ON BOND FOR PUBLIC PEACE
Robert Wilkesen, who a day or two
ago was released on bonds for assaulting
with dangerous weapons, was arrested
again yesterday and arrainged before
Justice of the Peice Hough. The charge
asked that the defendant be placed under
bonds to kesp the peace. The examina
tion was continued until next Wednesday
when witnesses will either prove him
guilty of menacing public peace or cause
his release. His bond, fixed at $1,000.
was paid. It is alleged that Wilkesen is
a sort of a bad man. and keeps the inhab
itants of Starkey alarmsd continually.
The examination will of course establish
the truth in the matter.
