W. Downing, president of the Oregon
State Board of Agriculture, is in the city
today with a view of interesting the iciti
zens of this county to pVepare an exhibit
for the state fair which' meets at Salem
from September 10 to jha ".6,
The state offers eight prlws this year
ror the best county exhibits on display,
$300 forthe 1st.; $230 2d; $200 3rd;
$160 for the 4th and $100 each forth
next four. " ,
Union county has been fortunate in
recent years with her exhibits to the star.
fair from the fact the exhibits arrived too
late to secure proper attention. Th' will
be a good year to make an exhibit. Wa
haye prize stuff in every industry and by
commencing in time there is no reason
why w should not pull down the first
prize. There is not a county in the state
was can provide as extensive a deversi-
nea exhibit as Union county. But to do
so we must begin right now with the prep,
erauon.
