COLDER ANNIVERSARY.
Seldom has it fallen to the lot of a
couple to be permitted to celebrate in so
happ? a manner as were Mr. and Mrs. G.
M..Taal..whqicelebrated their golden
wedding anniversary last Tuesday after
noon. ' 4 , .. , ;.
The anniversary celebration was fit
tingly begun at noon on Tuesday When
the- family, which , included children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren
gathered around the family table and par
took of a turkey dinner, the equal , of
which is seldom prepared. The picture
presented at this joyful board was indeed
one of beauty and love. At the' head of
he table was seated the gray haired old
gentleman.- who . fifty years ago had
proudly lead to the altar, the bright eyed
rosy cheeked young lady, where they had
vowed to remain ever true to each other
for better or for worse, though illness
and - health, now , seated at ;' ; his
side. r Though many years had passed
o'er them, and in passing, had 'whitened
their locks and dimed the eye,' 'still they
presided at their accustomed places with
all their old time grace. And it . was
evident that father Tail had lost none ol
the art with which he had carved in the
daye when it was thought a disgrace not
to be able to carve in royal style, j , .',
- At this anniversary dinner were gath
ered the entire Taal family, with but one
exception, one brother, Wm. Taal, who
from business necessity' was in a neigh
boring state. Four generations were re
presented. The fourth generation being
represented in the persons of little Mist.

In the afternoon an informal reception
was tield which was attended by the
many friends of the celebrating couple.
The home was . beautifully decorated
with flowers. Trie color scheme being
gold; everywhere the beautiful goldenrod
and California popies were in evidence.
The dining room wae especially beautiful
with the many and artfully arranged de
corations. '
Mr. and Mrs. Taal received many
handsome tokens of remembrance at the
hands of the guests, one of the most ac
ceptable of which was a beautiful loving
cup, the gift of Grandma Palmer, who
though past ninety-thraeyears of age was
able to attend the reception. One othei
present which should be mentioned was
the elegant golden oak china closet which
was presented by the Taal children. -
The guests aa they arrived were re
ceived by Mrs. Marie Conditt and Mrs.
Bess Scriber who presented them to
Mr. and Mrs. Taal, who were seated
under an arch, typical of the occasion,
composed of Goldenrod and California
popies. The guests were then invited to
the dining room where . Mrs. Ella ' Rhy
nearson and Mrs. Cnarles TaaL assisted
at the side board, by Mrs. G. G. Taal and
Mrs. Nellie Harrison served dainty re
freshments. 1 i , '
One of the many delightful features ol
the occasion was the arrangement' of the
dining room, and the decorations, of .the
tables. One table Was set with old ivory
and another with cut glass making a
most delightful and pleasing effect.
Mr. and Mrs. Taaf are well known and
honored pioneers of this valley .having
been constant residents of Union county,
the greater part of which time reside ts
of La Grande for the past thirty years.
The following is the list of children and
grandchildren and great grand children:
Mrs. Ella Rhynearson, Charles F. Taal
Mrs. Marie Conditt, Mrs. Nellie Harrison
Garrett G. Taa), Fred B. Taal, Wm. M.
la&l. I he grand children are Mrs. Bess
