proof. I brand all such imputations
maliciously false, and any persons who
impugnes my motives or questions my
honesty in administering the affairs of
this city are ill advised, jump at conclu
sions and know not the inwardness
things.
I am not responsible for a scheme
"graft" that was conceived, and partly
worked out by certain members but
shall do all in my power to bring
guilty parties to justice and the methods
employ will be known in due time.
I did not orignate the evils complained
of and I do not expect in one short year
to make all people good ani convert La
Grande into a saintly paradise.
I only expect to do what 1 said I would
do. "Fulfill the duties of the office to. the
best of my ability" and as, according to
you these abilities are very meager, and
my ignorance being my controling char
acteristic. I will not be expected to ac
complish very much. -
With these few remarks I am pleased
to renew your acquaintance after a lapse
of six long years. - (-
I wish to state for information that it
is provided in this vetoed ordinance a
druggist is prohibited from selling any
liquor in any form to his customers ex
cept on a prescription prepared by a re
gular practicing physician or he is liable
to be fined $300.00 and no less. This
certainly is an excessive fine for a trivial
offense. '

ONE HOOD RIVER ORCHARD
The Brock orchard at Hood River con
tains 2? acres. . Year before last when
there was a great crop everywhere, that
orchard netted f.n. b. at Hood River, $22,
000, there being 12,000 boxes that
averaged $1.90. That was because of
the brand. The Hood River brand is
known everywhere. No fruit is shipped
bearing it that i? not up to standard, and
buyers have confidence in it. Hood River
