Mrs. William Baker and daughter Lizzie
of Summerviite are La Grande visitors
today.
J. T. Williamson left this afternoon for
a trip up the river to look after sotr.e
timber land clients.
Fishing parties are the order of the
day. Some good cacches have been re
ported but as a rule the streams are too
high.
Mrs. Bert Benton and Miss Combstock
of Cove were in the city today visiti ng
friends and relatives. They will return
home tomorrow.
O. O. Howell, of Imbler was a La
Ctaiiua vikiLor today. Mr. Howell reports
mbler still on the boom.
The financial showing made by the
published statements of the banks of this
city it exceptionally good for this time of
the year. Wait until the money comes in
for the bounteous crops that are now
assured. There will be money to burn
this year.
Mr. J. Heidenrich returned last evening
from a trip through the Qoldendale
county. Mr. Heidenrich has done con
siderable traveling during the past two
years, but each time he returns he comes
home better satisfied with La Grande
and Union county.
Postmaster Richey states that while
he has not been officially notified, but
will, that the salary of the La Grande
post office will be increased from $2,200
to $2,300. The receipts of the office
from March 1 905 to March 1906 havej
increased $1,000. La Grande is grow
ing; every year, the volumn of business in I
all lines grow greater. I
Dr. W. A. Wise, of Portland, who has
puschased the Reavis Bros, dental parlors
is in the city. You will see his advertise
ment in this issue. He is here for buriness
in fact is a thorough business man. The
public will find Dr. Sturdevant, the
manager a pleasant gentleman to meet.
