Freewater June 13 It is found that
the strawberry crop of the Freewater
Milton district will be considerably short
of what it was at first anticipated. It is
now estimated that the entire amount
shipped out this season w.ll amount to
7000 crates the usual shipment being
from 15,000 to 20,000 crates. Many
of the growers did not complain however
at the prices have been high and tha
berries were good bringing most of them
as much as on former years. Blackberries
will be shipped the last of the montl a
bumper crop being expected. Cherries
are now coming in but there will be a
short crop. Green peas are also being ship
ped out in large quantities. The price
being paid for strawberries is $1.75 and
$2.00 the early ones brought as high as
$4.50 and$5.00. Cherries are selling for
$2.00 per crate. The recent heavy rain
and the late frost injured the strawberry
crop materially.
