Mr. S. O. Swackhammer came over

physician does not believe an operation
will be necessary.
Mrs. Clara Lyle leaves Monday for an
extended trip on the coast and east, on
June Uth she will attend th Grand
chapter O. E. S. of which she is Grand
Treasure, She will visit a sister in Wash
ington and from there expects to visit
a sister in St. Paul and will take a normal
course in music before returning.
The carry-all that went to Pendleton
Thursd y returned last evening with a
load of stranded passengers who were
held over in Pendleton, who thought they
would be adle to take th train here and
continue their journey. As .there are no
trains going East today, they are still de
tained. Th carry-all left this morning at
nine with another toad of passengers for
Pendleton.
NO CHANGE
The Observer called up the O. R. & N.
company just before going to press in
relation to the train service and was noti
fied that company expected to send a
train sometime tomorrow evening for
Portland via Walla Walla. A train
will leave this evening for the east.

While Mr. Charlie Oliver may never
have been regularly sworn in as a deputy,
he was employed on the clerical force for
a period covering fifteen months, ending
July 1898 and he received county
warrants in payment for such labor as
stated above.

NEW TRIAL TOR (ONDEMED PRISONERS

Vancouver, B.C. June 21 A new
trial of the train robbers has been ordered
by Justice Irving. After being out twenty
minutes' the jury at Kamloos returned a
verdict of guilty, and the judge sentenced
Miner and Dunn to life imprisonment and
Colquehoun to 25 years. It has since
been learned that the total cash taken in
the hold up is little over fifteen dollars.
