SOME QUESTIONS f02 THE
VOTERS TO TfflKK TWKE
ABOUT BEE02E YOTlfiG
Not being a politition 1 have no quarrel
with any of the parties or their candi
date. But being a Fruit grower a citi
sen and a voter I deem it my duty to let
the voters know any thing that may be
beneficial in a wiso selection of officers.
Therefore I wish to say a few word in
regard to Special purpose Candidate.
No w a special purpose Candidate h all
right if the special purpose for which he
waa nominated is paramount to all other
interests of County and State.
And even then it is well to consider the
qualifications of the candidate. And the
possible manner in which be may attend
to the duties of the office.
And to that end i submit the following
affidavit
AFFIDAVIT
This is to certify that I. O. B. Shappat,
being first duly sworn dspose and say
that I am personally acquainted with
Geo. H. Holmes has servsd one term
(1906) as Road Spuervisor in district No.
26 and is now serving bis second term
for 1906, and that I am .personally ac
quainted with about a dozen persona who
are subject to road poll tax and that dur
ing 1906 and up to date they have never
been asked to work or pay any poll tax
by their statement and that it ia reported
to me that there aredozene of othsrs who
have bssn treated the same way, also
that it has been estimated that It has
oeen estimated Mat tnie district haa lost
about $500 by this failure to work. '
And I further say that whan 1 notified
the said Gso. H. Holmes, that some part
ies wished him to repair the road in their
vicinity and intimated that they were
somewhat aggrivad by the neglect.
. The said ' Geo. H, Holmes, not ' very
politely informed me that if they got their
backs up he would never go about them,
and that part of the road. And further
that the major part of the roads in this
district have been almost absolutely neg
lected by him. ,

for the said state and county, this SOth.
day of May 1906.
J. E. Stearns,
Notary Public for Oregon.
Now fellow voters of Union County,
if you will read Section 59 and 40 of the
Road Laws of Oregon you will sse that
the Supervieoitia required t. collect this
Road Poll Tax.
Alao on page 56 of Road Laws of Ore
gon that he is required to subscribe to an
oath that he will faithfully and impartially
perform the duties of his office.
And if you will examine the County
Records and compare the 1905 report
With previous reports you will ses to
what extent he failed to perform his
sworn duty. t
Now Honable voters by ths above affidavit
it ia plain that tha said George Holmes
violated his oath and you can sss to what
extent he was faithful in a small matter
Now ths question.
, Will you make him rulsrovsr much?
Now another question ws understand
ha denies being a spscial purpose candi
date. Ha failed to keep oath of office.
Question Is his word or printed state
ment any more reliable?
We Judge the future by ths past. Thsre
fore be wiss in your selection.
Most Respectfully,
O. B. Shappat.
