To the Editor: Permit me space in the
columns of the Observer . to make a
statement' ' regarding the ' controversy
over the election of a Councilman ' from
the Third ward which resulted last even
in the election of Mr. Meyer.
: In th first place I desire to state that
the position of Councilman . was not of

Afterwards, however, upon th repre
sentation of my firiends that Councilman

would support me, 1 finally ' itated' the

didate. I saw Mr: Dunn end he. agreed
support me. , I told him that I would
not get into the fight unless I knew . that
I could depend upon his support as V did
not car enough forth position to get
out and make a fight for it " He said that
I could depend upon hie support and that
all he would ask of ma Would be to get
up a Petition signed by voters ' of ' the
ward assigning as a reason that if another
Candidate should enter' the ' fight 'sup
ported by a Petition that , it would' put
him in an embarrassing position,; ,
Mv friends immediately . commenced to
circulate a Petition in my behalt.Mwotcn
was signed by ninety voters of the ward
before Mr. Meyers came out as a Can-4
didate.. The Petitions oft file with " the'
City Recorder show that ninety ; three
persons signed my Petitions and only
fifty one signed Mr. Meyers Petitions in-.
cluding'elevefi that signed both' Petitions.1
I desire to state further that had Mr.
Dunn stated to me that he w.nild support
me in the event that Mr. Meyer was not
candidate but that if Mr. ..Meyer was
candidate that he would have to cup-
port him for financial, business or poliu
cal reasons that 1 would not have been a
candidate. ' ;
Mr, Dunn's promts of ' support to me
was a definite and unqualified as one
man could make to another' He simply
stated that he would like to have me get
up a petition for hie pwn protections -'
But outside of any promts what exous
can Mr. Dunn give for not recognizing
th petitions of th voter of,.' the '"third
ward? . '
When Mr. Carr wis . elected Council
man from the first ward in the face of a
petition for another candidate,, some of
th supporters of Mr. Meyer in thi fight
howled the loudest about the outrage of
ignoring the petition. 'Verily, it make a
difference whose ox is gored."
In conclusion, I will state that 1 eincere-
ly hop that "Whangdopdl Bacon" who
was instrumental in bringing Mr, Meyers
out as a candidate for councilman and
precipitating another "Bank Fight" is sat
isfied with my defeat and will let his muck
rake rest for awhile. '
