VALUABLE RELICS
Mr. and Mrs.' Dearlove who reside at
Oro Dell, were callers at the Observer
office yesterday and exhibited a news
paper, "The Reading Post," published
in London in the year 1733. The paper
has been in the possession of the Dearlove
family for over one hundred years.
The other relic is a chart UDon which is
pictured the advancement of the human
race, from the time of Adam to the vear
721. The paper in both instance was
in first class preservation and appeared
be able to stand another hundred
years or so without loss.

Brooklyn. N. Y. May 16-The construc
tion bureau of. the Navv deoartment is
willing to undertake to build the 20,000
tons battleship provided for in the pending
Naval Appropiation bill and on the basis
of the experience acquired in the con
struction of the Connecticut at the New
York navy yard, the constructors feel sure
that they can execute this task with rea
sonable dispatch at a minimum of cost.
A careful estimate limits the time allowed
for construction to forty-eight months and
tne cost to SI 0,000.000. The New York
navy yard is found to be the only place
available and suitable for this work, hav
ing the necessary slip room and the ma
chine plant and cranes required for eco
nomical work on the large scale involved
in the building of such a ship. The offi
cers and employes of the navy yard are
quite elated over the prospect of continu
ed activity at the yards for several years.

Crawfordsville, Ind May 16 The
supreme sitting of the Tribe of Ben Hur,
a fraternal organization with a member
ship of 100,000. principally in Indiana
and neighboring states, began in this city
today. About 150 delegates were pres
ent at the opening. The reports of the
supreme officers for the year show a grat
ifying gain in the membership and finan
ces of the order.
