terian church met yesterday afternoon at
the home of Mrs. F. E. Moore. The
afternoon was spent in piecing . a quilt.
Lemonade and lady fingers were served.

Nntice is hereby given that all appli
cations for permits to graze cattler
horses, and sheep within the Eastern
Division, of the Blue Mountain Forest
Reserve, during the season of 1906, must
be submitted to D. B, Snellen Forest
Superintendent. Baker City, Oregon, on o
before May 19, 1906. Full inform
ation in regard to the grazing tees to be
charged, and blank forms to be used in
making application, will pe furnished
upon request addressed to the abovo
named officer.

Contractor Ceorge Kreiger, who has
been confined to his home by illness for
many weeks, has recovered and was re
ceiving, the congratulations of his many
friends today. George said he knew that
La Grande would soon enter upon a busy
building season and he could not afford to
housed up any longer.
M. S. Carrol visited the Island City
Odd Fellow lodge last evening and as a
result he is laying off today and is occupy
ing a handsome oak chair which was pre
sented to him by the members of the
Island City lodgej The "chair was pre
sented toTiim asa token of the esteem
and mark appreciation of the many acts
of kindness which Mr Carrol has lavished
upon the Island City lodge. Mr. Carrol
greatly appreciates this token of friend
ship on the part' of his neighboring lodge.
The mark of honor is of special impor
tance as Mr. Carrol is not a member of
the La Grande lodge.
