1 ciico. As soon as it was possible to
- che secured transportation to Port
land, and from there was sent to Elgin
by an employment bureau, but was unable
to hold his position. Through the finan
cial assistance of J. Sommer he returned
to La Grande and is in the city tcday.
During an interview he said: "I was not
with my friends when the calamity felt,
but have since Mad intiffiifca that they
left San Francisco for Portland, hut I am
unable to find them there and fear that
tiey are amonjr the missing. The news
papers ari not giving the facts of the
disaster. : Neither is the death list as
high as it should be. ' as I am positive.
