The mass meeting last night was well
attended by many of the citizens and
business men of the city. The Mayor
called the meeting and briefly told what
could be done for the sufferers at San
Francisco. After appointing the follow"

and will forward the car tonight.

cash it now in the hands of the committee
and more is to follow. Besides the two
car loads that will be sent tonight, there
is another car load of mixed food stuffs
that will go Monday. The committee
is meeting with the most liberal donations
where ever they go.

San Antonio, Tax., April 21. Today
is the anniversary of the battle oi San
Jacinto and the anniversary it generally
observed throughout Texas. The cele
bration in this city, which really began
with the opening parade on Monday, wil
reach its final conclusion today with the
grand Battle of Flowers. The city is
beautifully decorated and the display of
flowers is gorgeous. Flowers are every
where and the general effect is delightful.
Thousands of visitors from all part of the
southwest are here to witness the c losing
events of the great patriotic celebration.

society of Washington will celebrate the
anniversary of the battle of San Jacinto
this evening with a large meeting at Odd
Fellows hall on Seventh Street northwest
which accomodates about 1000 - persons.
An interesting musical program has been
prepared and .' Representatives' Morris
Sheppard and ueorge t . burgess will de
liver addresses.

Oakland, April 21. A bureau has been
established here that the missing may be
located and the identity of the injured and
dead be made known as far at , possible.
Tht Oakland papert are printing a free
list of the missing and Injured, and nun
dreds have been located in that way.
Flames are now on every side of tht
Gibraltar ware house where are stored
thousands of cans of canned food stuffs.
The destruction of the Ferry building now
seemt imminent. Late reports from
Santa Rosa say that tht death list will
not reach over forty.

RELIEF WORK PROGRESSING
Oakland, April 21. Relief work is
progressing rapidly and tyttematically.
The mayor of San Francisco and Funston
are working together at the headquarters
of Fort Mason. The fort, with the great
magazines narrowly escaped destruction,

Oakland April 21 At si thit morning
the wind veered again and threatened
ma rerry Building. Dynamite wat
rushed across the bay to be used in stop
ping tht growing flames. On all tidet of
the Holy Cross cemetery, the fire raged
fiercely all night and leveled all the fine
residences that stood in that section.

SPECIAL AT ROCK ISLAND
Rock Island, April 21 The Govern
ment special train passed through here
for San Francisco, carrying thirteen ex
press cars, and day coach. The city of
ficers of the Scripps-McRae correspond
ance boarded the train at Chicago. The
train is making an averaged of fifty miles
an hour.
FACTORIES DYNAMITED
Oakland April 21 The fury of the
flames is somewhat abated this morning
after having laid waste a strip along
water front near Meigg's wharf. A large
number of factories and warehouses that
formerly stood in this section of the city,
are ruined. Last night, the fire complet
ed the work of destruction on Telegraph
Hill and Russell Hill, tweeping them
clear of all human habitation. To tave
the water front the great Henry Machine
Workt wat dynamited and the postofflce
building was saved after a heroine
fight by station Bof the fire department.
If fortune continues to favor the fire
department, the flames will be stopped
before it reaches Lombard street wharf.
S3veral warships and tugs are assisting
the rescue work by pumping water from
theb'yon the flames. '

strengent steps to prevent the vandalism

Republican registration of 1 775 only 1200

and Union; Herman Rothschild of North

men received votes In all of the precincts
and were thus duly nominated.

at eleven fifty, fire swept the town of
Maoquina a little village in the Philippine
Island. A neighboring city, called Pasil
