died at her home in this city last evening
of consumption, after a lingering illness.
I aged twenty-two years. Funeral ser
! vices will be held from - the Christian
church tomorrow at two thirty. Rev. O. H.
King officiating. Tnterment will be made
in' the Odd Fellows' cemetery.
Deceased was born in Missouri in Oct
ober 1884. and lived there until she
I married Q. W. Lee. five years ago. Shortly
aiierwara tney came west to La Urande
and have lived here nearly two years and
half Har husband, and Hazel a four
year old daughter, survive her.
Mrs. Lee had not been in good health
for some time and last July she was
stricken with consumption and has kept
continually losing her health until she
died. '

New York, April 14 The eurvey fcr
the canal to connect the Black Sea with
the Baltic Sea. has been completed, and
plans for the formation of a syndicate to
finance the enterprise will soon be under
way. Eugene Boumonville, an engineer
a id promoter of this city, will sail for
Europe this month to consult with the
concessionaire.
The canal is to be known as the
Emperor Nicholas U Canal, and will be
1,600 kilometers, or about 1,000 miles
long. 65 metres widsand 55 metres deep.
It is estimated that it will require t n
years to complete it, and the cost will te
about $ 1 00,000.000. Most of this capi
tal, it is hoped, will be obtained in the
United States, which, it is believed, would

icans. Of the capital needed, $40,000.
000 is expected from Holland and Belg
ium. The canal will be built without a
lock, through a territory that is flat for
the greater part, and will be deep enough
for the passage of Russia's largest war-
sh'ps.
