Mr. Boedecker will only remain a few
days, being on his way to Portland.
Miss Stella Jones, formerly of this place
who has been visiting in North Powder
for several weeks, stopped off on her re
turn trip to Portland.
Mr. James Russell is moving his family
to La Grande, where he has purchased
property. They will be missed by a large
circle of friends.

Umatilla county has few Democrats
according to the registration books which
closed yesterday.
There are about 5,500 names now on
the official roll. Of this number about
100 have signed .themselves either as
independents or have refused to name
their party affiliations. In the remaining

are Democrats, while all the rest are
Republicans.
The total and official report of the
county will not be in the hands of Regis
tration Clerk Clark Nelson for several

Series 1906 ,
An ordinance -establishing the street
and side-walk grades of Second Street In
the City of La Grande, Oregon, from
points named herein.
The city of La Grande does ordain as
follows:
Section I. The street and side-walk
grades are hereby established as follows,
upon Second Street in the city of La
Grande, Oregon, towit:
Commencing at the intersection of
Second Street and I Streets, said city, at
an elevation of 42.60 feet above the
present established base for fixing the
grades of the streets of said city, thence
south along the center of Second Street
to the center of H Street 47 feet above
the base, thence south to the center of G
Street 64 feet above said base; thence
south to the center of F Street 61.74
feet above the said base; thence south to
D Street 73.92 feet above said base;
thence south to C Street at an elevation
of 85 feet above said base.
Section 2. The grade of the side-walks
shall be upon said Second Street betweer
the point mentioned herein, and are
hereby established at the same elevation
below said grades, as upon other, streets
of the city heretofore established by or
dinance.
Section 3. This ordinance shall be in
full force and effect from and after the
1 0th day of April 1 906, and shall be pub
lished for one issue in the La Grande
Evening Observer.
Passed by the council on the 4th day of
April, 1 906, by 8 councilman voting
therefor and no council men voting against
U passage.
