week's stay in Portland. .

SUICIDE IN CHICAGO HOTEL

Chicago, III.. April 6 A handsomsand
apparently a cultured woman, about
thirty-five years of age and registered as
Mrs. Emma Bardeleben was found dead
in her room at the Palmer housethis morn
ing. The dead body had a bullet hole in
the head and a pistol by iti side. The
report of the shot attracted the bell bov
ine woman had a man companion in the
city and . he tells the police that the
woman s name is Edith Cooper of Phil
adelphia.

FORTUNE TELLERS ARRESTED
Three gypsy women strolled into town
today and began canvassing pedestrians
for the privilege of "Telling fortunes."
As this is a licensed trade, the gypsies
were quickly taken into custody by the
police and arraigned in the police court,
where they were fined one hundred
dollars apieco. In default of the fine
they were lodged in jail this afternoon.
The authorities think, however, that the
rest of the gypsy crowd will come to their
rescue and pay the fines. The dusky
damsels have their camp at Oro Dell.
