the sugar company will have at least
4000 acres' in beets this year, the largest
in the history of beet growing m this
valley. This meant from 25,000 to
40.000 tons of beets.
There is no mistaking the fact that
public sentiment all over the , Northwest
is much more intent upon the e iforcement
of law than ever before. Tie "Wild and
Wooly West" is a thing of the past. '
By examining into the platform it will
be found that most all of the candidatet
take pleature in detignating themselvet
at "Roosevelt Republicans". Teddy's
"square deal" has been nciived with
enthutiatm in all partt of this country.
Vacant house are quite scarce for
thjs time of the year, as the season of
activity I almost here the few dwellings
now vacant will be occupiad. There

will be in demand before fall.
The erection of the new O. R. & N.
thopt, work upon which will commence
within the next three weekt, will add
much to th amount of money in circula
tion in this city thin summer. Th pre
sent pay roll from th O. R. & N. Co. foots
up to something over twenty thousand
dollars but this amount will be doubled
during th tummtr months. La Grand
ha a prosperous summer coming.
There are twelve farmers whose landt
almott join each other on the Sandridge,
whote total acreage is 0,000. With
irrigation and allowing each farmer 80
acre, on hundred and twelve families
could be comfortably housed on the sam
area that now contains ' twelve. Thit
givet torn idea as to how population will
increat in this valley.
La Grand ha long been in need of a
hospital. At this time ttur it tvery
reason to suppose that at last one will be
rected here. The subscription papar
which has circulated the past few days
has been received in the proper spirit and
already quite an amount has been sub
scribed. . No one questions the necessity
for th hospital, and so far none have
refuted to donate something toward
securing th tame. Let the good work
go on,
