The coldest night was January I, when the official barometer registered 6 above zero.. .This is a regular summer resort compared to the East Hon. Judd Geer, of Cove, who repre sents the fifth horticultural district of Oregon, was in the city Saturday. Mr. Geer is acknowledged to be one of the best "bug hunters" in Eastern Oregon, and has done much towards giving this community fruij; clear of all insect pests. Hon. J. D. The horses which con trols the motive power for the rapid tran sit of groceries, became frightened this morning and ran away. Without the guiding hand of the driver they were un able to miss all the cross walks and tele phone poles and with each succeeding meeting between wagon and land mark, a part or the wagon was left behind. The horses were uninjured, but the wagon I a total wreck. - Judge W. R. Ellis, of Pendleton, Re publican candidate for Congress, was in North Powder Tuesday. Judge Ellis is circuit Judge for the sixth judicial district having held that position for the past six years, and from 1893 to '99 was a mem ber of Congress.
