DERRINGER HARTKOPF On Sun
day evening, March 4th., 1906, at the
home of Mrs. Derringer, on Monroe St,
La Qrande, Oregon, Mr. Luther ' F.
Derringer of this city, and Miss Mabel
Hartkopf were married, John E. Hough,
Justice of the Peace officiatiating. ,
Luther is well known here, having been
practically raised, in this city, and Miss
Hartkopf, who formerly lived at Caldwell
Idaho, has a large circle of friends.
While the marriage was supposed to be
a quiet affair it turned out that many of
their friends knew all about it and the
spacious rooms were filled to overflowing.
After the ceremonies were over, Mrs.
Derringer Sr. ushered the guests into the
dining-room where there was a spread
fit for a king, after which a very enjoy
able evening was spent It teemed that
Jake Johnson was entitled to the prize as j
the best story teller. He seemed to be in
his best mood and did sure enough" turn
himself loose," and to say that every one
enjoyed ar.d will long remember the oc
casion is putting it mildly. Among those
present were, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Carpen
ter, John Scott J. E. Johnson. Mesdames
James Nash. N. C. Larm, J. W. Bull. Cal
Larm, B. E. Derringer. Messrs Clyde
Sullivan, Arthur Derringer, J. E. Derrin
ger, and the Misses Kate Frank, Nellie
Bull, Marie Larm, Juniatta Carpenter,
Dude Bull and Andrew Frank. The bride
was the recipient of many nice and use
ful presents many of which were sent
from Idaho.
Even the small boys were not forgotten
and when they came with their tin armor.
refreshments were ready, after partak
ing of which, they went away and made
a beeline for another place where they
expected a dose of good things, and as
they seemed to make no noise there, it is
supposed that they met with the same
kind and considerate treatment

from Telocaset on a short lay off.

leton breweyman, is over today visiting

Bragg returned last evening from Baker

Judge Ellis passed through the city last
evening enroute from Sumpter to his home
at Pendleton.
Q. E. Corpe came over from Cove last
evening and returned to his home this
afternoon.
H. C. Rinehart of Summerville, who is
a candidate before the Republican pri
maries, is in the city today.
A. A. Gust proprietor of the Oregon
Produce Company, returned this morning
from a trip to the coast cities.

- The three fire department companies
of this city will elect a chief this evening
at the city hall. Joseph Jones and James
Farquharson are candidates.
Mayor J. D. Slater left last evening
for Portland to be with his wife who it is
expected will be operated upon at the
Good Samaritan hospital in Portland, to-morrow
morning.
- In the last issue of the National Tri
bune at Washington, D. C, a drawing
of a combined paperhanger's brush and
other tools appears. The pantentees are
Arthur Q, Harris and Ed Jarman of this
city. Before this instrument is placed on
the market patents from Great Britian
and Canada will be secured.
Mr. and Mrs. Collinsworth of Joseph,
are visiting Mrs. Collinsworth's brother
and sister, Fred Sheets and Mrs. William
Earls of this city for a few days. From
here they will go to Hot Lake for a few
days, and then to Union where they will
visit Joe Sheets and the family of S. O.
Gates. They are on their wedding tour,
having been . married on February 28.
They will return to Joseph where they
will make their home. Mr. Collinsworth
is in the employ of F. D. McCully at that
plaee. "

and ware not disappointed. Ernest Gam
hie as a baritone soloist is euoarb. His
enunciation is so distinct, so that people
really know what is being sung. His
ability to sustain clear low tones is won
derful.
Mr, Lamberson's piano playing was de
lightful Miss Page simply held her aud
ience as in a spell. Her fine old .violin
seemed filled with the soul of music and
ready to respond at her call
It is safe to say that La Grande has
not had a finer musical prrgramme and
we have had some fine musicians .here
The management of the course is to be
congratulated upon securing such an at
traction. Mr. Davie furnished the' fine
piano which was used.
BASKET BALL
On next Wednesday evening the basket
ball team of the Pendleton Commercial
association will play a game at La
Qrande with the club team of that place.
The players from here will be as follows:
Stricklin and Hoffman, forwards; Wilson,
center; Folsom and White, guards. Two
subs will be re-elected for a number that
are now trying for the places,
It is expected that a return game with
La Grande will be played here following .

the slave girl who killed her owner, and
who Is on trial for murder'' in the first
degree, pleaded 'guilty to a ' charge of
manslaughter this afternoon; It ie under
stood that she will be used as a witness
against the policeman who it-is alleged is
in league with criminals of the stamp of
th girl's owner. Her sentence will be
given the twenty-third of this month. -
