the official congressional directory, of the
fifty-ninth congress. Second edition
1906. received yesterday by the Orser
ver there are now thirteen members of
the United States Senate who served in
the Confederate army during the civil
war. It is superfluous to add that aU of
these ex-Confederate United States
Senators are now Democrats.

miscellaneous baggage in the rooms and
on the platforms at the .Northern Pacific,
the Great Northern and Oregon Railroad
& Navigation companies' depots and
scores of alert, ambitious men. bright
eyed women and car free children tell
the story of yesterday influx in the
colonist movement from the eastern and
middle western states to the Pacific
northwest."
A majority of the 200 person that
arrived at Spokane on the 2 2d. inst
were from Ohio. Michigan. Indiana. Illi
nois, Iowa. Mnnota and Wisconsin.
The arrivals were mostly prospective
settlers. Th reports are that every
train out of St Paul and Ctucago for
this coast has from 20 to 45 passengers
traveling at colonist rates, quite number
are stopping off in Oregon.
The Rev. A. H. Sheldon, pastor of the
Methodist church at Davenport, Wash
ington, reached Spokane from a ti4 to
northern Michigan with a party of pros
pective settlers, and if satisfactory1
