It has not as yet been decid ed which will be done, but it has been given out that th company will need an other vassal shortly, as it is th intention to tak the Bailey Gatzert out on th way to get her in snap fof th pring and summer season. Eh will again be Th boiler and engines of th Regulator is thought, war not injured by the fire to any great extent. They have been hauled out from the ruins and placed on a platform for close inspection. It Is said that enough has been learned to show that th engines are in good condition. Theonly thing noticed wrong with the boiler is that on of th plate was slight ly sprung. When this is rivited it is be lieved th boiler will be as good as ever Should such prove to be th case, the company will build a new boat and equip her with th old machinery. It is pointed out by th general manager of th line that the carrying capacity of th steamers will b taxed during the next yartr two transporting material to th north bank road. With th Qatzert off the freight run and used xcluively as an excursion boat th fleet would be rather small if another craft I not pro cured. It is supposed that in arly spring th steamer Chae. R. Spencer will be placed In service again between Portland and Th Dalles. Captain Spencer, th owner, is still in the east, but he is ex pected horn th latter part of this month. STRAY THOUGHTS An over-dressed man is an unfortun ate individual with a passion for absurd ity. Tun it a double theif, it not only steals our years, but takes enjoyment too. Those whom unkindness has made crabbed, are best won by kindness. There are peopl who find their great est happiness in being melancholy. - A man who it prodigal with his lima, will also b prodigal with his money. Some people are so busy themselves in caring for th moral of others, that they have no time to observe the unlaundried condition of their own peculiaritiss. Those who are 'most willing to wait are those who hav to wait the longest Some peopl harbor feeling of injury toward anyone better off than themselves A will and a way are two things widely divergent Its a happy thing there is no law com pelling wise men to read what fools write. All great deeds are built of small efforts, upon a foundation of labor. VALENTINE SOCIAL Crystal Rebekah Lodge No. 60. will give a valentine social at th I. O. O. F. hall. Fab. 13th.
