Reynolds, the alfalfa king of Un ion county, wa in the city today and stated that he now ha two hundred and sixty live acre or aiiaii uii iir jr.:? expects to seed about seventy-five acres more for next season. He will also plow up some of hi alfalfa meadow in order to test the benefits to the soil resulting to land from an alfalfa crop. Mr. Rey nolds finds the culture of alfalfa profitable and submits the following figures to dem onstrate the assertion: Off of one forty acre tract, without water, Mr. Reynolds cut two tons the first cutting, one ton the second cutting, and a little better than a half ton the last cut ting, making a total of three and a half tons per acre. For the ' crop Mr. Rey nolds received $7 per ton in the stack. Therefore he received $24.60 per acre. After taking out the cost of production and estimating a liberal amount of inter est on investment, he finds that hi net profit was slightly over $17.50 per acre. Thus he considers that alfalfa is a more profitable crop than wheat at $1 per bushel. Thi particular tract from which these figures were compiled has been in alfalfa for three seasons and he expect even better returns from next season's crop. Mr. Reynolds state that he ha no fear regarding over-production, a w'hen the time come when we produce an over plut of alfalfa, the advantage of the Grande Valley a winter feeding locali ty will assert themselves and will become known throughout the Northwest KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS Special meeting at K. of P. hall with Grand Lodge officer.
