Sam Cullen. formerly a bralteman on
the O. R. & N. out of this citv. but nnw
employed on the Washington division of
the O. R. & N. with headquarters at Star
buck, is in the city visiting friends.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McAlister leave
tonight to attend the meeting of the De
velopment League which convenes in
Portland. On the 16 th they leave for
Oalirornia where they expect to remain
until spring.
The Walla Walla Poultry show will
hold its sixth annual exibition in Wall
Walla February 810. The premium
list is now out and persons desiring a list
can secure one by calling upon Express
Agent Masse who has a number for dis
tribution. There will be a call meeting of the
Womene' Relief Corps in this city on Jan
uary 14th. at 6 p. m.. at the Odd Fellows
hall. This meeting is for the purpose of
completing the election of officers, and all
members are requested to be present.

Mr. William Muir, the pioneer mining
man, accompanied by his faithful dog Tim
arrived in the city last nieht from his
mines up the Grande Ronde river. Mr.
Muir states that the snow at his mines is
about the same depth as it is at this place,
but between here and there it is three feet
deep.

Mrs. Holm gave her daughter, Mrs.
Swartz, a pleasant surprise yesterday in
the way of an afternoon party and lunch
eon. The event was to celebrate her
twenty-first birthday. Sociablity and
hospitality are always in evidence when
Mrs. Holm is hostess and this was no ex
ception, as her guests were unstinted in
their expressions of appreciation for th
pleasant afternoon given them and are
quite willing'to help celebrate Mrs. Swartz"
