AMUSEMENTS
, - , : before the driws
Histrionic genius has a way of
uating itself. Witness the long
Booths, and Barrymoresv and
perpet
line of
D3WS.
And now there has come out of the west
a new star who is the last member of
the oldest theatrical family in America.
Before the Drews, or any of the other
theatrical families, became identified with
the dramav in America, the Mestayers
were connected with it Now Harry
Mestayer, the only survivor of the family
and the youngest star upon the American
stage, has been placed at the head of his
own company in Ibsen's "Ghosta" and in
him has been found the genius for acting
that made his ancestors prominent and
rich. "Ghosts" will be presented at
Steward's opera house, Friday, December
IS- ,
THE ADAMS SISTER'S COM1NQ
The following notices will1 give some
idea of the entertainment of these little
ladie's who will entertain the' public next
Monday evening at the M. E. Church.
These little women present the most
interesting and cleanest program we have
ever sesn. Every number on their pro
gram has been selected with care and is
a gem." They excel in histrionic ability
and their charming personality tends de
light to all their performance. ' Tab much 1
cannot be said in praise of their work and
when there are so many inferior perform
ers seeking the churches in which to fill
(heir purses, these words ought to, be
said: No church can make a mistake in
securing these charming women Rev.
Fred Sheldon.
The Misses Lucy and Sarah Adams
were greeted by a good house last even
ing, and their entertainment was an un
qualified success. From the first number
until the last encore had been responded
to, the little ladies with their refined
specialities and excellent impersonation
kept the audience in the best of humor
and the close of the program brought out
many warm expressions Of appreciation
on the part of the most critical of the
audience. The program was one of the
best if not the best ever seen in this
city, and some of the work was of rare
merit The Misses Adams came well
recommended and their work was fully
up to the best that has been said of them.
Morning Herald, Albany, Oregon. '

f The Whitman Glee Club ha decided to
vary the UBual concert program, by divid
it into two parts. - The first is mad

the "Hunting Chorus" from Robin Hood,
and bringing in Prof. Fischer, violinist
and Mrs. Fischer, soprano. The second
part will be in the form of a seen in the
typical dormitory opened.,, with a
hazing episode, and ending with the co' lege
song and yelL Several "stunts" will be
included in. this scene, among them "Ro

songs, solos, duets, trios, quartetts.and
choruses are brought in here. Steward's

SPORTS
CHRISTMAS FOOT BAIL CAME .
The football game to ba piayed in this
c'ty on Christmas day be tw;en the Pend
leton commercial club and the La Grande
team promises to be a lively, hard fought
contest Athena was defeated Saturday
by the Pendleton team 50 to 0. and as they
were beaten by the La Grande team on
Thanksgiving day 42 to 0, the scores show
the La Grande boys are slightly stronger.
However, Athena may have strengthened
up her team since they played here.
The ; Pendleton boys want the Christ
mas game played in that city, but this
can not be done, as several of La Grande's
best men-would be unable to get awly
on that day. If the game is played at all
it will have to take place at La Grande
There is no disposition on the part of the
home boys to have the game cancelled, in
fact they are all very eager to take
whiri at the PenJIelonians, and it is to be
hosed that tins little difficulty will be fix.
ed all right and the game take place

REFORM MOT ABOLISH
Delegates from thirteen colleges in con
ference in New York decided that foot
bail should not be abolished, but reform
ed. In view of the fact that twenty-one
