William and Elmer Hogoboom, well
known rao horse owners of Walla Walla
are in the city today.
Chas Green is preparing to set out
five or six acres in strawberries on his
place across the river.
J. A. Emerson, A. L. Clearkne and
M. L. Crawford came down from Baker
City this morning and are in the city to
day. ,
Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Russell arrived last
evening from the Sanger mines and will
remain in the city for a few days.
, W. R. Winans is erecting a $10,000
hotel at Hood River Falls for the accomo
dation of tourists. .. The "Devil's Punch
Bowl" will be on the hotel premises.

It is evident that the Lewis and Clark
fair did not take all of the money out of
this country as shown by the bank state
ments just published and the figures show
that as a matter of fact the deposits of
the La Grande National bank have in
creased over $60,000. . Grande Ronde
is a prosperous" section of a prosperous
Northwest .

I Want Damages
F. E. Graham, of Elgin has presented a
claim against Union county, amounting to
$290. for the loss of cattle killed by the
collapse of the Wallowa bridge. Hector
McDonald, who was also driving a herd
of cattle across the bridge at the time
and suffered a similar loss, has also put
in a claim against Wallowa county for
damages. .

Weiser is to have a $30,000 opera
house. ...
Things are warming tor the municipal
elec!n nt Astoria, which occurs on Dec
ember 13.
Governor Chamberlain has granted a
pardon in favor of Harry Milnar, of Port
land, who is serving a three months sen
tence for I eating his wife.
The dispatches again informs us that

Eine Dinner
The compliments over the dinner served
today by the ladies of St Peters Guild
were profuse by all who partook. The
ladies serve supper this evening and they
will be assured a generous patronage.
