HEALTH AND SEWERAGE
The reappearance of diphthe
ria in the rity on the north side
of the railroad leads the people
of that vicinity to bulicva that
the dread disease is the direct
result of poor drainage and lack
of proper sewerage. The drain
age from the O R & N shops
runs through that piirt of the
city in an open ditch, a sluggish
stream that could easily breed
disease.
Tia is not alone the only part
of town without drainage, as the
whole portion of the town lying
below the bench is loo flat to
have drainage without a sewer
system. Typhoid and scarlet
lever and diphtheria will reign
every year so long as there is
no sewer. Human lives are the
cost of this nuglect. Something
must be done. While the city
i deep in debt a heroio eflort
should be made to provide a
system whereby the health of
the city may be preserved.
Heretofore a lack of water lo
carry off the sewerage has con
fronted the people but from
thia on water could be obtained
from different sources to pro
vide a perfect system.

east of the Rocky mountains on
October first this year at 23,894,

wheat on Oct 1st on the Pacific
ooast was 8,166,000 bashels.
On Oct 1st 1904 it was 4.100.0CO
bushels.
