are being run over tba entire system
The bridge U about 350 feet In
length, constating of two . ehoit spans
which are really approaches to tba
main bridge, with two apana in the
oenter resting on , an Immense con
crete pier in tba river bed.
The present bridge U an overhead
bridge, and when built was several
yeara in advance of other bridges In
the northwest, bat it has now been
Ilia new bridge which Is being
planned by the bridge and bniMlng
engineer will be of steel throughout,
with possibly bo overhead frame It
will rest upon the concrete pier In
tba center which was erected for the
present bridge, and which will stand
at long as the bottom to the Umatilla
river stands. Tba estimated oat of
the elegant new structure will be
165.000 and It will be the most ex
pensive improvement to be made at
any one point on the line In eastern
Oregon . '
