BIOGRAPHICAL
General Blaokmar waa born in Bris
tol Pa , on July 26, 1841, but spent
tbe greater part of bis life In Hessa-
chnsette. He waa a lawyer by profes
sion, bat h
years ago. While a stuJent at Exeter
N H, at the time of the breaking out
of tbe oivil war, he enlisted in the
Fifteenth Pennsylvania cavalry. Ha
served with, distinction in tbe army
and was awarded a medal of honor by
congress fcr gallant action in tbe field
of File Forks. He waa promoted to
a eaptaincy as a result of hia conduct
on that occasion.
Later General Blaokmar, was judge
advocate of afavaaehuaelta for a num
ber of yeara on tbe stiff of Governors
John D Long, Toomas Talbott and
Alexander Bice. He . waa elected
commander-in-chief of "the Grand
Army of tbe Bepublio at the time of
the last national encampment in Bos
ton in August of last year, !
The remains will be ahipped to Boa-
ton for interment.

Sheridan Poet, GAB, at Boise, has
taken obarge of the remain of Gener
al Blaokmar. Ihe body waa embalmed
aad encaaed In a metallic casket, which
waa conveyed to the Grand Army
Hall, where It will lay In elate until
three o'clock thie aiternaon. At that
time it will be taken to the depot
Mra. Blaokmar will leave with the re
mains tonight for Boaton.

court this afternoon gsve district at
torney Clark, of Brooklyn , authority
to exnme tbe body of Mrs Carlton, tbe
aeoond wife of E E Carlton now in jail
charged with swindling and an attempt
at poisoning Mrs Carlton bo died of
lockjaw, aa bad tbe first wife of Carl
ton. The relatives of the deceased
woman charge that Carlton executed a
diaboical. plan of innocnlating tba
woman with tenanie baecilli. Both of
the womeo were insured in Carlton'a
favor.
Moving Power Plant
The Grande Ronde Electric Com
pany is having its poaer house movi d
six buodred feet down tbe bill from
ile former potitioo below Morgan
Lake. Tbia building i tbirty feet
square and was originally erected eix
buodred feet below tbe lake by tba
La Grande Water Storage Company,
where they intended cutting tbe
power. However, after tbe consoli
dation of the originsl Morgan Lake
company with the Cove cower com
paoy and tbe La Grande Electrio
Light and Power company, it was
deemed advisable to have the power
generated twelve hundred feet below
the lake. Tbe contract for moving
the building waa let to Mr John
Hough, tbe house-mover. All of the
machinery for the power plant is al
ready here, with the exception of tbe
large wheel , and it is stated on good
aut tority that tbe plant will be in
operation within sixty days. The
location of tbe plant will be on Mill
creek, neat the place where tbe city
formerly took out water.
Quick Work
Marshall Rayburn did some quijk
work today '.n arrresting an alleged
forger. About eleven o'olock this
morning he received a telephone mes
sage from the sheriff at Vale, Oiegan
telling him to look out for a man by
the name of August Ball, and il
found, to arreat him on a charge ol
forgery. Insic'e an hour and a half
from the time the marshal received
thi notification, the aaid August Ball
was confined behind the bars of the
city Jail. From what Marshal Rav.
burn could learn in regard to tbe
matter from talking tbe abort time,
the man ia alleged to have made too
free ue of other people's names in
elgniug them to checks. The sheriff
from Malheur county will arrive after
the prisoner tonight.
