A Wise Mule
Brooklyn courts opened late, croee
town street Mrs were held op sad all
business in tbe vioioity of Borough hall
was suspended for a half hour the
other morning, all bccaoee a rat-toiled
Missouri mule named Ebeaeisr object
ed to going down into the sab way al
the Borough hall opening. The mule
had been working under ground in
another section of the sub-sy for a
year sad it was a strong protest he
made r gainst leaving the surf see
again.
Judges of the appellate division,
Borough President Littleton and his
official staff and a thousand lawyers
and olerks left their work to offer ad
vise. In a specaliy constructed bos stall
mvlsa are lowered by a derrick into
the subway, bat Ebenexer had been
through one experience with that box
and refused to walk in. Persuasion
wss useless and pushing was impossi
ble tor he was very handy with his
feet, and whn a street oar tried to
psse bim let fly bis heels to tbe con
sternation of tbe passengers.
Borongb President Littleton, who
bad experience with mules in Texas
a ni Tennessee, raised bis window to
suggest that it would be a goop idea to
baok the male in. Bat the box was
not built so this could be done.
There was a strap on saoh side of ths
mule's bead, and with all the men
that could get their bands on the
straps, it was impossible to pull him
in. When be got to tbe entranos be
would side step just enongh and tben
the work bad to be commenced all
over again.
Some unnamed genius finally sug
gested that by putting a bawser
around the mule's stern he could be
warped into tbe box. Tbe tope was
provided, and there was no lack of
volunteers. With about 75 men on
eaoh end of the rope, end all pulling
together when the word waa given,
the mule was fairly shot into tbe box .
Ebeuezer twice tiied to lunge out, but
ropes were put over bis baok to hold
him and tbe steam derrick lifted tbe
bos and mule and lowered them 30
(eet into tbe subway. New York Her

PADEREWSKTS"
BREAK DOWN
Paderewski's break-down on his
Canadian tour calls to mind how very
liable tbe great muslclsns are to nerve
exhaustion. Neuritis is the penalty of
using up the energy of motor nerve
eells faster than it can be regenerated
from food and reat. The strain pat
upon certain centers by tl e tedious
and protraoted praotioe of pianists and
violinists is very great. After a break
down rest is sbsolutely required for
reoovery. Osteopathy, If given a faith -fat
trial, will usually prevent neuritis
by freeing np any pressures that may
be impairing the nervous vitality of
the musoles Involved, as well as se
curing a normal blood suddIv for the
area of Utigue. By toning up the ;
whole system and promoting healthful I
relaxa'iou and restful sleep. Osteo pathy
does everything that can be done
to effect a cure in these oases.

You know that for centuries Cod Liver
Oil has been considered the best medicine
for throat and lung troubles, but its
nauseating eff eot upon the stomach made
it impossible for many to take it. Now-a-days
Vinol accomplishes greater results,;
for while it is a Cod Liver Oil prepara
tion, it is entirely free from oil or
grease, and therefore it is fast taking
the place of old-fashioned Cod Liver Oil
and Emulsions. --Respect fully,
