the amount of creamery butter
made in Oregon .has doubled in
the past five years. , '
Remember the business meet
ing of the Commercial Club
Friday evening. Friday even
ing of each week is . a regular
meeting for all the members of
the club to assemble and pre
sent and discuss plana for, the
bettermeut and improvement of
this city and county: The fact
is the life of the Commercial
Club depends to quite an extent
upon the success of these meet
ings. The chief complaint . for
the past three years is that the
Commercial Club has degenerat
ed into a social club and many
have expressed themselves that
it should change its name. In
other words was not living up
the Commercial idea of its or
ganization. During the past
few weeks there have been , a
number of new members se
cured on' the understanding that
the Commercial Club wouid
arouse and lead tha procession
toward securing additional peo
ple and payrolls. , '
The Club is composed of in
dividual members and if each
member shifts the burden on
his neighbor the condition is
just what we now lwe. ,
The Club has had threo open
meetings and very few of the
new members attended these. At
the first meeting arrangements
were made to have a county ex
hibit at the Lewis and Clark
fair. As a result of thit
first meeting the committee
found out that the railroads
would not permit . literature to
be srat'ered ou the trains. This
wss a matter that bad beeu 'in
doubt for some months. At this
first meeting steps were taken to
make the proper application or
afree city mail delivery which
is being done.
The Observer mentions the
benefits that these few meetings
are accomplishing aud what can
be accomplished along this line.

were coraniitte's appointed, to
look into the cannery proposi
tion and promieis were held
out that a possibility was in
