Coal Company will close a contract
within a few dys with ' the United
8tatee Steel- Corporation to furnish
the latter with all the coal It may re
quire during a period of twenty-five
years,- at market prioe.
,. The contract calls .for all the coal
the corporation may need after the
product of its mines is exhausted.
Tbe amount of coal necessary lor
tbe company to furnish will probably
be between 6,000,000 and 10,000,000
bushels a year.
The Monongahela Coa Company,
controlled by the Pittsburg Coal Com.
pao, will furnish its proportionate
quota.

Those wbo want to buy fresh Oregon
butter will bave no difficulty in iden
tifying it. in tbe grocery stores and
creameries after May 18. On that date
tbe state brand law, passed at tbe last
eession of the Legislature, will go into
effect.
Tbe object of tbe law. ia to build op
the dairying and cream industry of
this slate. It requires that the state
brand, aa designated by the Dairy and
Food Commissioner, shall be placed
on all butter made and sold in Oregon.
A law somewhat similar is in force in
Washington. At the pressnt time
butter may be imported from any
where and sold hsre aa fresh Oregon
butter. After tbe new law goes la'.o
force, this kind, of imposition upon
consumers will be unlswfui. The law
will also prohibit tbe placing or keep
ing of the stale brand upoa butter

than 30 days. This will prevent the

upon buyers under fals pretenses,
