peaoeably at bis home in Palestine
thia morning t the age of 87. He
was first elected to congress in 1856
and remained until 1861, wbere be
accepted the the p sttion of Postmaster-General
in the confederate cabinet
under Jeffersoo Davis, and was the
only member of the cabinet who was
eaptured witit Davis and was confined
for many months in Fort Warren. In
1874 he was returned to congress for a
number of terms and in 1887 was
elected to U 8 Senate and was author
of the Cullom-Eeagan interstate com
merce bill . He was th last survivor
of the Confederate cabinet. .
