Eighteen workmen were injured and
ten firemen. The policemen who re
moved the injured were overcome by
by the fumes of the sulpher. The ex
plosion was due to a spark of Sulpher
in grinding mills. A second explosion
followed in a few moments and the
whole building was Immediately in
flames. Many workmen were rescused
by ladders while other jumped from
the windows, The loss is estimated
at thirty thousand dollars .

It was a first night," and the fact

Augustus Thomss, was tufficient to
rail together a large audience. The
title of the piece, ''Mrs. Letflnawell's
Boots," was not calculated to inspire
any fear of tbe serious or tragio.
SERIOUS THOUGHT IS COMEDY.

as once declared, "I would write plays
so serious that uoono.ould come to
them." And, sa a rev.ewer in tbe
Evening Telegram notes, he has since
become such a master of the comedy
form that be Is able to slip in some
serious thought without permitting

THE POINT OF THE PLAY

blended into such an admittedly amus
ing production; and acknowledge as

audience is made, to accept the cure
performed aa both natural and teason
