In Albany New York 'with a population of all' agesLHce's ' and color in 1900 of 94,151 there were 1,789 deaths that year which made a death rate 19 to every 1.000 of the people, inthe same city there were that year 7,466 children uti'der five iars of age among whbme there were 412; deaths, making a death rate of 65.2 in each l.XJOO 'children. 1 In : Atlanta t3edrgiri with' a' po pulation of all rnrey, 89 872 of which 1,930 died in 19U0 a death rate ot 21 5 per 1,000. In the same year there were 8631 child re u five years old and under iu Atlanta of whome ' 559 died a death rate of 64.8. Boston Mas6. had a total po pulation, in 1900 of 560,892 of whome 11,571 died, a death rate of 20.8 per 1000 people. That year there were 67,36t onfldro iu Boston five years old and under among ' whom there were 3,749 death's, a death rat 6f 6. 4 per 1000" child red. In 1900 New Oreleans, La. had a mixed, population of 297, 104, and 7,424"aeaths av6eath rate of 25.9 per 1000 people. The same year New Oreleans had 80,064 children fivo years old and adder, 'among which there were 1,957 deaths, a death rate of 65.1 per 1000 children. Portland Oregon had a popu lation of 90,428 in '1900 of whome 856 died that year, mak ing a death rate of 9 5 per 1000 of the population. The same year' there were 5,438 cliildren in Portland five years and under among which there were 167 deaths making a .death rate of 26.3 per 1000 children of that age. In 1900 there vpere 413.536 people in Oregon and 3,390 deaths a death rate of less than 9 to the 1000 of the total popu lation. The figures for Portland and Oregon 'are taken from page 508, vol.
