PAINTS. eibS AND SLAbS La Grande Evening Observe SATURDAY. OCT. 15, 1904 Breakfast For Poor Children Milwaukee Oct. 14 -Poor children are to be furuiahad breakfast free of charge in all public sohools. Alderman John MoOoy recently made an investigation and oonoloded that many poor children whose par ent work for a living olten go to school without any breakfart. 80 he started a fund, and committee of prominent women took charge of the money and will see that janitors In various distriota famish breakfast to all who apply. This is in aooordance with a eu- geation recently made by Superintend ent Maxwell of the New York City schools in an address at 8t Louis. Thousands oi children in olty sohools he said are unable to give their at. tentlon to study because of the gnaw ing oi hunger. out aii iney rouna was sap. After tool laugh bad subsided (he boys oontioued to saw, They could not tell'vhtob way the tree would fall so they eon oluded It would us beat' to sea that the women were out of danger.- j It was a laughable soene, Old Ben with his hive, bis wife with bucket and spoon, Charley with, hie at, and France, Ivan, BUI, Elmer, Will, Roe, who la always on the go, Tom, Barte, Anna,' Sylvester and their wives. O yes and John way back out ot dapger. About the time the tree fell the bees began to make it interesting for the spectator and they decided to move. Some of the toys gathered around the bole In the tree where the bees were and ot course a dispute arose at once, So.-ne said they1 were yellow Jackets and some aaid they were honey beea ao they tried to Hod the queen bee The sting was more like yellow jack eta than any thing else. While we were disputing the uight watch came up and some one asked him if 'bey ere yellow jackets. "Well," he said was raised in a bee country and if those are yellow jaoketa they ' are the queerest ones I ever saw; 80 in order to settle the dispute they removed the hive and chopped the tree away to get to the neat by the time we found the nest we had decided, from the sting and appearances they were yellow Jackets. We burned the neat 'and returned to camp where the boys proceed to rub liniment on the place where the ' bee stung them. - ' , X Y Z The Bee Tree Two men, while outling logs for Mc Klnnis Bros near their saw mill north west of Summervllle, apled a tree which they thought contained aawarm of bees. When they started to out the tree down the bees swarmed from a hole about thirty feet from the ground A dispute arose between Old Ben and tiharley as to whether they were honey beea or yellow jaokets so they 00a oluded to wait until night to finish cutting the tree in order to save' the honey and beeB. That evening Old Ben and his wife came prepated to capture the bees and get the honey. Everyone in vamp was requested to be present and wit nees the fun. Nearly all th members of the oamp" had gathered around the tree. 'When one of the boys oame up some One said this tree 1b just full of honey taste it, he stuok hie hand In tho plaoe where they had chopped the tree Success lathe certain tobuH of persistent advertising in the columns of the Observer.
