to Ibe lumber yards and planing mill
of tbe Stoddard Lumber Co., today,
and waa shown tbrougb the plant by
tbe curteoui president, Mr. J. B. Stod
dard. Tbe whole plant Is being re
modeled and enlarged, andaeveral new
modern and np- to-date pieces of ma
chinery are being installed. , The
building, when completed, will bs
78 X 100 feet, and all will be on one
floor, on the ground lev.l, ao as to fa
oilitate tbe runniug in and ont of ma
terial on oarta, trucks and wagons.
There will bs an open driveway run
ning through Ibe bjildiotr from east
to wei-t, a shaving and boiler room e
rtcted on the south side, and a new
fifty horse power boiler placed in ope
latioo. The general offioe will be in
the North nest corner of the large
building, and will be 20 x iJ feet in
dimension. . Among other improve
ments the company it installing a
new autorratic, self feeding Bip Ma
chine, and immense Big Stioker,
weighing 6,600 pounds, and new blow
fans, ordust cleaners. These blow fans
are to arranged at each machine that
all the dual and tuavings are taken

Prof and Mrs E P Day, of the La
Grande School of mniic, gave an inter
esting musical eonteat at their etndio
last evening, in two of their olaseet,
and the successful contestant waa
awarded a handsome gold medal In each
class. .
The contestants in one class were
Helen Carrey, Bessie Palmer, Bertha
Lewie and Almy Lyman, who eaob
performed tbe same piece of music,
"Honey Belle'" a polka mazurka, and
and the medal waa awarded to Helen
Uurrey.
For the other medal there were three
co teetants, namely, Boy Currer,
George Curry,' Jr., and Carl Walters,
each rendering the Azalia polkas, and
in this instance, the medal waa award
