Editor Evening Observer; Dear Sir Supposing you might be inter ested in a brief detoription of the joiinery, country and the products along the way from Portland to Los Angeles. I will try to tell yoa a little auout them ' Many of yoar readers have enjoyed tba pleasure of a ride on the Pacific ' Ocean and some of thm have suo i ceeded in riding a but king bronco . I bave ridden the MUiouri mule and believe I prefer it to tha others fui smoothness. At Astoria we tied up for about eight hours waiting for more water, tba water in the ocean got so low that the steamer could not pass over the car as we had to wait lur a reaotion of the water. We left Astoria at noon and crossed the bar about 1 :3U p m tbe trip over tbe bar was a delightful one as far tbe weather waa oonoerned. Only one of our party was sick tu crossing tbe bar, but before night many of them were playing bids and seek mostly hide. I was not going to take any part in tba fun but was compelled to change my mind, and so "1 1 gave it up" like most of tbe others exoept two or three. Ooly a very lew gentlemen were at dinner, the ladles were not hungry. It was good as a oirous to watob the wbslea xnd porpoise playing ard rscing with the steamer. About 6 :80 a m the third Jay, we passed through tbe Oolden Gate into San Frapoisco Bay. wneo numerous borne and for eign vessels were anohored, inoludiog oue United Sijtea bsttleship, seven found us in oomlortable quarters at the Ruts Ueuve, one of tbe best hotels in San Francnco, it ia run by : Mr Cbas Newman, an ex railroad man. Here two days were very pleasantly spunt in eight seeing, The ChuUis, The famous Cliff House, Lilo Savine Slatiou, and Oolden Qa ePark, which ia to he the finest park on tbe Pacific coast.
