SILVERTONAPPEAL.COM WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17, 2020 | | 3B Ducks building consistency in recruiting nationally. In 2019, Oregon was No. 1 in the con- ference and No. 7 in the nation, and in 2020, the Ducks were No. 1 in the Pac-12 and No. 12 nationally. A lot can happen in the next few months, especially with USC’s resur- gence on the recruiting trail, but the Ducks are positioned well to deliver an- other nationally recognized class. Pete Martini Salem Statesman Journal USA TODAY NETWORK When Mario Cristobal took over as Oregon head coach in December 2017, he made a point to focus on recruiting and player development as a way to bring the Ducks back to the national stage. Oregon reached that point in 2019 as the Pac-12 champion and Rose Bowl champion, as well as a No. 5 national ranking in the final AP and Coaches polls. To continue that success, the Ducks need consistency in recruiting, and it’s clear Cristobal and his staff are able to sustain that. Not even the coronavirus pandemic could slow them down. Oregon’s 2021 recruiting class is cur- rently ranked No. 2 in the Pac-12, behind USC, and No. 8 in the nation after secur- ing nine commitments since March 16, according to 247Sports.com. The Ducks have 13 commitments overall, including nine four-star talents. Oregon has seven commits ranked among the top 151 players in the nation, and they represent a variety of positions — wide receiver Troy Franklin (No. 31), offensive tackle Bram Walden (No. 85), pro-style quarterback Ty Thompson (No. 92), inside linebacker Keith Brown (No. 101), running back Seven McGee (No. 120), wide receiver Kyron Ware- Hudson (No. 131) and tight end Moliki Matavao (No. 151). There is plenty of time left until the Dec. 16 early signing day, and the Ducks Ducks’ 2021 football commitments Oregon Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal runs drills before the game against the USC Trojans at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. JAYNE KAMIN-ONCEA/USA TODAY SPORTS could improve their ranking. In fact, even though they are No. 2 be- hind USC, the Ducks have a higher aver- age player rating than the Trojans — Oregon is at 92.13, and USC is at 91.37. But the Trojans have 16 commits right now, three more than the Ducks. Oregon’s recruiting consistency un- der Cristobal is impressive.
