A sunny summer Friday afternoon in
Silverton lured people to the usual
warm-weather attractions around town:
ice cream stops, shady spots, water and
playgrounds of activity.
Sometimes there is a mix.
The skate park lured Brandon Little,
22, of Salem and Matt Mesa, 26, of Port-
land who rolled recreationally through
the challenging dips of its course.
“We like coming here to this park,”
Brandon said, giving Silverton’s rela-
tively new facility a thumbs up.
Scarcely 200 feet away, Rick Palm
found the shade trees at the dog park
more to his liking. Rick enjoyed that
shade with a crew of canines — rat-
terrier-corgi mix Jamie, full-corgi Ker-
ra, a mischievous blue-eyed hound mix
Loki, an indifferent toy-poodlesque mix
Russell and another camera-shy dog
sitter.
Rick teased the latter that he must
be delinquent from work on a “sick”
day.
The canines seemed to prefer the
shade as well, save Loki, who found a
pouncing dive into the water dish equal-
ly appealing.
A few others tested the waters out at
the reservoir, while a number swim-
mers took to either the pool or Silver
Creek, rounding out a community’s
carefree afternoon.
