John H. (Jack) Hancock
July 30, 1931 — Sept. 9,
2016
John H. (Jack) Han-
cock passed away peace-
fully on Friday, Sept. 9,
2016, at the VA Hospital in
Portland, surrounded by
his family.
Jack was born on July 30, 1931, in St.
Joseph, Missouri, and moved to Salem in
1954 after serving in the army during the
Korean War. Jack was a school teacher at
Salem Academy and later an Oregon
CPA for over 50 years. Jack loved his
family and lived his life for them.
Jack was preceded in death by his par-
ents, Irving and Frances Hancock, and
his first wife, Starr B. Hancock.
Jack is survived by his wife Marcine;
sister Susan; children Jon, Joel (Germa),
Mary (Dave) and Sarah (Stan); grand-
children Jeremy (Hensia), Eltimon, Da-
vid, Alison (Daniel), Andrew (Leah) and
Julie (Kyle); and great-grandchildren
Emma, Elliott and another due in Octo-
ber. He is also survived by his step-chil-
dren Dan (Linda), Bernie (Gina), Susan
(Brian) and Sally; grandchildren Aaron,
Micah, Aly, Jenny and Travis; and great-
grandchildren Trace, Terek, Aidan, Mad-
ison and Chance.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to Union Gospel Mission of Salem
and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt.
Angel.
Services were held at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Mt. Angel with pri-
vate family burial at Belcrest Memorial
Park Cemetery in Salem.

William “Bill” R. Hodson, Jr.
Oct. 22, 1955 — Sept. 10,
2016
William Richard Hod-
son, Jr. was born in Los
Angeles, one of seven chil-
dren. He was raised for a
time in California before
moving to Silverton in 1969. Over the
years, Bill owned and operated Hodson
Roofing with his brother, Steve. He was a
family man above all else and adored his
grandchildren and children. He enjoyed
shopping at garage sales and was an avid

collector of many things. He loved
sports, especially football, and was a fan
of the Los Angeles Rams. Bill will be
greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by three sib-
lings.
Bill is survived by mother Barbara;
companion of 29 years, Rose Cardiff;
children Jeffrey Hodson and Jennifer
Hodson; stepchildren Chris Cardiff, Tom
Cardiff and Chrystal Liskey; 13 grand-
children; and sisters Chris Oster and
Cheri Qualey.
A celebration of Bill’s life was held
Sept. 17 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Sil-
verton.

Stanley John Rich
Sept. 22, 1925 — Sept. 13, 2016
Stanley “Stan” Rich, 90,
passed away peacefully
on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016.
Stan was born on Sept.
22, 1925, in Scotts Mills to
Almond and Emma (Lar-
son) Rich. He was raised
in the Scotts Mills area,
and graduated from Silverton High
School.
He met and married Elva Marie
Pierce, and together they raised their
family and resided in Scotts Mills before
moving later to Estacada. Stan was a
hard working man and, above all else, a
family man. He worked as a heavy equip-
ment operator and in construction
throughout his life and enjoyed working
in Mt. Hood National Forest logging and
building roads for a time. Stan was de-
voted to Elva and his children and en-
joyed watching sports, especially at-
tending his children’s sports activities
throughout the years and later his grand-
children’s sporting events. He was a
member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Stan is preceded in death by his par-
ents, his son John, and wife Elva.
He is survived by son Terry; daughter
Diana (Jeff) Haga and grandchildren Ja-
cob and Madison; daughter Genie (Dan)
Cary and grandchildren Russell and
Heath; daughter Linda Rich and grand-
children Cory, Shane, Kevin, Ashley; and
many great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11
a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Silverton Im-
Oklahoma to Oregon at the age of 17. She
graduated from Roosevelt High School
in Portland, and attended beauty school
in California.
Verniece married LaVaughn “Bud”
Meisenheimer in March of 1937 in her
sister’s house. They had two children,
Verlene and Dale. In 1947, the family
moved to Silverton.
She enjoyed china painting, taught
4-H, was involved in Marion County
home extension, and was an active mem-
ber of the Silverton First Christian
Church.
Verniece is preceded in death by her
husband; sisters Arvilla, Anna, Cora
Pearl and Olive; son-in-law James; and
daughter-in-law, Sally.
She is survived by her daughter, Ver-
lene Beard; son Dale Meisenheimer;
grandchildren Mark (Betty) Beard, Bry-
an Beard, Darin (Ronnie) Meisenheimer
and Corey Meisenheimer; great-grand-
children Justin (Hannah) Meisneheimer,
Danika (Nick) Turney, Kylee Beard,
Katelyn Meisenheimer, Morgan Meisen-
heimer, Courtney Meisenheimer and
Barrett Meisenheimer.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m.,
Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Silverton First
Christian Church.
The family wishes to thank Pastor
Steve Knox of the Silverton First Chris-
tian Church, the staff at Willamette Val-
ley Hospice, and the staff at the Willson
House in Salem for all their care and sup-
port. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to Silverton First Christian Church
and Willamette Valley Hospice.

Lois Endresen
Oct. 29, 1926 — Sept. 11, 2016
Lois Endresen, 89, passed away on
Sept. 11, 2016, surrounded by her family.
Lois Anne Barnes was born Oct. 29,
1926, to Herbert A. and Anne Barnes in
Gresham. She was the middle child of
three. Her older brother, Richard, and
her younger brother, Robert, both
passed away in 2015.
Lois grew up in Gresham, and while in
high school there, met her future hus-
band, Arthur Endresen. They were mar-
ried in Gresham in 1947. The young cou-
ple moved to Silverton, where they
farmed and raised three children, Mark,
Anne and Julie.
After their retirement from farming,
Lois and Art traveled across the U.S. and
Canada. They spent most summers and
some winters at their cabin in the wilder-
ness of British Columbia, Canada, where
they did a lot of fishing, four-wheeling,
snowmobiling and other outdoor activ-
ities. The last few years kept them close
to home on the old farm in Silverton,
where Lois enjoyed her front porch view,
and many visitors. The coffee pot is al-
ways on.
Lois is survived by her husband of 69
years, Art; son Mark (Anita); daughters
Anne (David Monteith) and Julie (Mi-
chael Birch); grandsons Shawn and Hans
(Beth); and great-granddaughter Lily
Anne-Marie.
A private family service will be held
at Mt. Hope Cemetery in the Waldo Hills.
Memorial contributions may be sent
to the Silverton Hospital Chaplaincy Pro-
gram.
