Robert Lee Larson,
Sr.
March 31,
1931 — Aug.
20, 2016
Bob Lar-
son
was
born to Do-
rothy Dun-
ning
and
Anton Larson in Newton,
Iowa. He had five broth-
ers (all of whom preceded
him in death) and one sis-
ter, Louise. After high
school graduation, he
served in the Air Force
during the Korean con-
flict with remote duty in
Greenland. Thereafter, he
married Wanda and began
working in the field of
banking, rising ultimately
to the position of vice
president.
After his retirement,
Bob moved to Oregon to
be close to family and to
fulfill his lifelong desire
to finish his college de-
gree. He succeeded at this
goal, graduating from
George Fox University in
1998 at the age of 67. In
1999, he married Nancy
Mills and became an ac-
tive community member
in Newberg. Larson par-
ticipated in Habitat for
Humanity, served on the
local school board and
held a position as a city
councilman for four
years. He was also active
in his church, providing
free financial counseling
for many struggling
young couples.
He graduated to heav-
en after a brief heart ail-
ment on Aug. 20, 2016, fol-
lowing several years of
decline due to dementia.
Bob is survived by his
wife Nancy; sister Louise
(Anderson) of Tucson, Ar-
izona; son Robert (An-
drea) Larson of Silverton;
daughter Sandra (John)
Little, of Arizona City, Ar-
izona; stepson Justus
(Brenda) Mills of Happy
Valley; stepdaughter Pau-
la (Dennis - deceased)
Mills of Canby; step-
daughter Carla (Mike)
Norton of Boise, Idaho;
eight grandchildren; and
many great grandchil-
dren.
A memorial service is
scheduled for 11a.m. Sept.
10 at the West Chehalem
Friends Church, 16700 NE
North Valley Road in
Newberg. There will be a
private military inter-
ment ceremony at Wil-
lamette National Ceme-
tery for family members
only.
Bruce Leroy Dickman
Feb. 5, 1925 — Aug. 27,
2016
Bruce Leroy Dickman,
91, passed away in Port-
land on Aug. 27, 2016.
He was born on Feb. 5,
1925, to Arthur and Maude
(Beer) Dickman in Silver-
ton. He graduated from
high school and served in
the armed forces. Bruce
proudly served his coun-
try in WWII. During his
time with the Navy, he
was wounded in the Mar-
shall Islands for which he
received a Purple Heart.
Bruce worked as a farmer
growing gladiolus and
daffodils. He was a life-
long member of the Elks
Lodge in Silverton. Bruce
enjoyed Navy reunions
and loved visiting family
and relatives.
He is survived by his
stepson, Rod (Debbie)
Bennion; granddaughters
Katrina McFarland and
Amanda Bennion; and
great-granddaughter Ma-
cayla McFarland.
Bruce is preceded in
death by his wife, Flor-
ence
Dickman,
who
passed away on Feb. 16,
2016.
A funeral service with
military honors was held
Sept. 3 at Unger Funeral
Chapel in Silverton. Buri-
al was in Bethany Pioneer
Cemetery in Silverton.

Isabelle “Issie” A.
Fagan
Nov. 11, 1916 — Aug. 31,
2016
Isabelle “Issie” A. Fa-
gan, 99, passed away in
Woodburn on Aug. 31,
2016.
She was born on Nov.
11, 1916, to Frank and Pau-
line (Beyer) Bartsch in El-
ba, Colorado. Issie en-
joyed playing cards, cro-
cheting lace and loved to
garden. She is survived by
many nieces and neph-
ews.
Visitation will be 10
a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday,
Sept. 10, 2016, at Unger
Funeral Chapel in Mt. An-
gel, with a graveside ser-
vice to follow at 1 p.m. at
Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Gervais.

James Lee Tull
July 4, 1930 — Aug. 30,
2016
James Lee Tull, 86,
passed away in Silverton
on Aug. 30, 2016.
James was born on
July 4, 1930, to John and
Ruth (Duncan) Tull in Ma-
rysville, California. He
taught at Freemont Adult
School and John Sloat Ele-
mentary School. He en-
joyed playing cards, fish-
ing, hunting, and garden-
ing. James loved his wife
of 25 years, Jean Tull. He
was a loving husband, fa-
ther and friend.
James is survived by
wife, Jean Tull; children
Angie Tull (Mike) Fowler
of Silverton and Tony (Ya-
suko) Kessler of Pismo
Beach, California; daugh-
ter-in-law Debbie Kessler
of Reno, Nevada; grand-
children Jason (Heather)
Kessler of Sacramento,
California, Nick Bocane-
gra of Aumsville and
Amanda Tull of Sacra-
mento, California. He is
preceded in death by his
son, Ron Kessler.
No services will be
held. The family would
like thank the staff at Wil-
lamette Valley Hospice
and Lone Oaks Care
Home.

Lenore Irene (Kilgore)
Voelsch
April 5, 1928 — Aug. 22,
2016
Lenore was born in
Casper, Wyoming, to Wil-
liam and Claudia (Layton)
Kilgore, the eighth of 12
children. She and her fam-
ily moved to Oregon and
settled in the Salem area,
where she met Eugene
Voelsch. They married at
Silverton First Christian
Church. Gene and Lenore
lived in Salem for a time
and later moved to Eu-
gene, where they lived for
many years. To this union
they welcomed their two
daughters Linda and
Jeanne and later their two
sons Boon and Chang.
Lenore spent her ca-
reer working for Holt In-
ternational
Children’s
Services and later Pearl
Buck Center in Eugene.
She loved her family and
friends above all else.
Gene and Lenore attend-
ed University Street
Christian Church for 40
years, and they were very
involved in the church’s
activities. Lenore enjoyed
music and reading, and
had a passion for writing
her “musings.”
Lenore is preceded in
death by her parents, hus-
band and 10 siblings. She
is survived by children
Linda Voelsch, Jeanne
Johnstone, Chang Ford,
and Boon Tanyavutti;
grandchildren Matthew
Johnstone, Monica Ford,
Neil Ford, Eric Tanyavutti
and Justin Tanyavutti;
great grandchildren Zoe
Claire and Aden Kam Ta-
nyavutti; brother Leon
Kilgore; and many nieces
and nephews.
A celebration of Le-
nore’s life will take place
at 1:30 p.m., Saturday,
Sept. 10, 2016, at Silverton
First Christian Church.
She will be laid to rest
with her husband at Val-
ley View Cemetery.

hosts ‘Big LeBocce’
APPEAL TRIBUNE
AmeriTitle Silverton
held a charity bocce ball
tournament, The Big Le-
Bocce, Aug. 17 at the
Oregon Garden. In part-
nership with AmeriTitle
Salem, 256 people par-
ticipated and $7,500 was
given to nonprofits.
The Wall Street Wiz-
ards won the tourna-
ment. The team's desig-
nated nonprofit is the Al-
yce Hatch Center, which
provides services to
children with develop-
mental delays.
The winners of the
AmeriTitle sponsored
costume contest also al-
located funds to Silver-
ton Area Community
Aid and Virtue First.
The Big LeBocce is a
fundraiser that has giv-
en $56,825 to communi-
ties in Silverton, Salem,
and Bend.
City manager
search continues

MT. ANGEL – The
city’s search for a new
manager continues, with
an additional finalist
joining the three re-
maining candidates at a
meet-and-greet tonight.
Amber
Mathiesen,
currently Salem’s city
recorder, is the newest
candidate in the search.
She was previously the
city manager for Falls
City, and she holds a
bachelor’s degree in
public administration
from the University of
Phoenix.
Gene Green removed
his name from consider-
ation last month. The re-
maining three candi-
dates are Justin Hogue,
Daniel Spencer and Dar-
ren Wertz.
Hogue has been Mt.
Angel’s assistant city
manager for two years
and holds a master’s de-
gree in human resource
administration
from
Boston
University.
Spencer is an attorney
who served as counsel
for Lake County. His law
degree is from Willam-
ette University. Wertz
most recently served as
manager of the Clark
County Board of Equal-
ization in Washington
and holds a master’s de-
gree in economics from
the University of Ore-
gon.
The four candidates
are available to meet the
media and community
tonight, Sept. 7, from
5:30 to 5:45 p.m. in the
Mt. Angel Community
Room, 290 E. Charles
Street. At 6 p.m., the
council will interview
them, with a final selec-
tion possibly occurring
after that.
