Summer art installation set
to launch at Oregon Garden

To complement the
beauty provided by na-
ture at Oregon Garden, 10
Oregon artists will have
their
work
placed
throughout the site for the
return of the Art in the
Garden exhibit, to be held
July 15 through Sept. 30.
The installation will
launch with an artist re-
ception from 6:30 p.m. to
10 p.m., Friday, July 15.
Tickets include Garden
admission, artist presen-
tations, a glass of wine or
beer, light appetizers and
live music provided by
the folk band Seahorse,
lead by guitarist and song-
writer Rick Swanger.
Four featured artists
are creating pieces spe-
cifically for Oregon Gar-
den.
These works include
Tyler FuQua’s “Wind in
the Willow,” contrasting
metal and trees; a carving
by David Hillesland enti-
tled
“Chaise-ing
Dreams,” made from the
remains of a fir tree; a
wood shingling creation

Other exhibiting art-
ists are Mark Brody,
Mark Collins, Lowell
Duell, Richard Hays,
Scott Kuszik and Denise
Sirchie. All of the pieces
will be available for pur-
chase.
“Art in the Garden
does have an effect on
Garden attendance,” said
Chris Crabb, an Oregon
Garden spokeswoman. “It
gives guests something
new to experience each
summer, in addition to our
60,000+ annuals and sea-
sonal plantings.”

bers or $25 at the door.
Tickets are $5 for mem-
bers with a reservation or

vors include Josie, his
wife of 68 years, brothers
Glen and James, sisters
Carol and Emma Jean,
and three sons, Denny
(Ruth), Fred (Gloria) and
Pete (Christy.) Also four
grandchildren,
Tricia
(Tim), Michele (Mark),
Jolene (Jordan) and Joel;
five great-grandsons, Ste-
ven, Connor, Neil, Logan,
and Landon; and two step
great-granddaughters,
Kaylin and Mylee.

p.m. on Sunday, July 10, at
Zion Mennonite Church at
6124 S. Whiskey Hill Road,
east of Hubbard. Private

Gary proudly served
his country as a U.S. Ma-
rine during the Vietnam
War. He was highly
trained in survival tac-
tics. He did cold weather
training on Mt. Fuji, Ja-
pan, jungle training in the
Philippines, and served in
Cuba at Guantanamo Bay.
In his working years, he
was a long time employee
of the Bonneville Power
Administration.
He was a faithful ser-
vant of the Lord, serving
as an Elder for Trinity Lu-
theran Church, Mt. Angel.
It was his joy to show his
passion for the Lord by
disciplining others. He
had a great love of the out-
doors, especially bird-
watching and hunting.
One of his greatest plea-
sures were his dogs,
Champion and Natasha.
He will be remembered
for his huge laughs and
one-liner phrases, but
most of all his amazing
courage, strength, and
love.
His viewing will be
held at Ungers in Silver-
ton on July 6 from 4 to 8

Rice’s eleven children. He
attended Fairfield Cen-
tralized schools in Ohio
and graduated from high
school in Hesston, Kan-
sas.
Homer registered for
WWII as a conscientious
objector and served in Ci-
vilian Public Service
(CPS) doing soil conserva-
tion and farm work in Vir-
ginia, smoke-jumping in
Montana, painting ranger
homes and signs in Shen-
andoah National Park,
and tending horses on a
US Victory ship to Poland
for the UN Relief and Re-
habilitation Administra-
tion.
He moved to Oregon in
1947, worked at Needy
Brick and Tile factory.

Scotts Mills, beloved hus-
band of Barbara “Bran-
dy” Coleman, unexpect-
edly went home to be with
his Father while vacation-
ing in Maui.
Born in Portland to
Howard and Irene Cole-
man. Survived by his lov-
ing wife, Brandy Cole-
man, and four children:
Susanne Hook, Jeremy
Coleman, Brittney Mar-
ble, and Howard Cole-
man; grandchildren: Col-
eton, Brienne, Liam, and
Hudson.

Aaron Bryant Cressey
II, 14, passed away June
27 at Doernbecher Chil-
dren’s Hospital in Port-
land.
He was born April 24,
2002, to Aaron and Mary-
carmen (Rangel) Cressey
in Silverton, the youngest
of three children. Aaron
took an interest in many
things. He played the alto
saxophone,
enjoyed
chess, golfing, the ’57
Chevy, and watching TV.
Aaron’s favorite show was
Man vs. Food, his favorite
movie was Grease, and he
especially liked watching
the History Channel. Aar-
on liked sports and was a
fan of the Seahawks and
Blazers. His loved sea-
food and he liked going to
Pietro’s Pizza in Salem.
He wanted to be a doctor
to help others and would
have liked to play la-
crosse. Above all else,
Aaron loved his family
and spending time with
them.
Aaron was a brave
young man who fought
fearlessly to overcome
his battle with leukemia.
He carried a bright smile
and had an infectious per-
sonality. He will never be
forgotten and forever re-
membered.
He is survived by his
parents, his sisters Alex-
andria and Cassandra
Cressey; his loving grand-
mother, Eloisa Soriano,
and extended family.
Celebration of Aaron’s
life is currently pending.
