On Friday, the libraries in the Chemeke- ta Cooperative Regional Library Service will in- crease the maximum number of items persons with a free basic library card can borrow at the same time from one to 10. The number of items readers can put on hold also will increase to 10. John Goodyear, the co- operative’s executive di- rector, said the previous policy of borrowing one book at a time was “pretty restrictive.” “It’s going to be a big deal because people didn’t Let us point you in the right direction. But our old deep fat fryer is in continual need of maintenance and re- pair. Thank you for helping us move forward with the purchase of a new one. Huge weeds grow any- where they can, leaves are not picked up from one season to the next and the “lawn” is a patch of dandelions with flowers over a foot tall. I’ve been told by an em- ployee that the postmas- ter sees it but doesn’t care. Welcome to Ore- gon’s Garden City. —Patricia Fowler, Silverton
