passed
away June
10, 2016, at
his home,
after a few months of gen-
erally declining health.
Hutch was born in East
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
to Enoch and Elizabeth
Dagnall Hutchinson. The
youngest of eight chil-
dren, all of his siblings
Elizabeth (Jack) Egloff,
David (Flo), Thomas,
John (Catherine) and Ma-
ry Audrey (Fred) DeMuth
preceded him in death. He
is survived by his wife
Marilyn; children Pam,
Robin (Rocky) Hunter,
Lawrence (Joan), Mark
(Jenny) and Diane (Ed)
Newby; 11 grandchildren
and six great-grandchil-
dren.
Hutch graduated from
East Pittsburgh High
School in 1942, lettering in
basketball and football
for three years. Soon after
graduation he enlisted in
the Coast Guard, serving
on the USS Brunswick
1943-1946. Hutch liked to
share stories about his
time in the Coast Guard
and proudly wore a Coast
Guard hat for many years.
After an honorable dis-
charge Hutch worked at
the Braddock, Pennsylva-
nia, Edgar Thompson
Steel Mill as a slagger and
molder’s helper. Next he
worked at the Union Rail-
road round house in Brad-
dock, drying and loading
sand for traction, and
backing the train into po-
sition to be filled with wa-
ter and coal.
When he decided to
take advantage of the GI
Bill, the term had already
started so he temporarily
worked at GE in Erie, in-
stalling throttles in elec-
tric engines destined for
cars going into South
American mines. After
enrolling at Edinboro
State Teacher’s College in
January, 1949, Hutch at-
tended every summer in
order to graduate in three
years. Graduating at mid-
year he was unable to find
a job and nearly re-enlist-
ed in the military, but in-
stead re-entered Edinbo-
ro to earn his elementary
teaching credential.
That was the year he
began dating the love of
his life, Marilyn Minnis.
They were married Aug.
7, 1953 in Meadville, Penn-
sylvania. Hutch and Mari-
lyn moved their family to
southern California in
1960 so Hutch could take a
job with the Garden
Grove School District,
where he taught for 20
years. He worked a sec-
ond job in park security at
Disneyland and told many
interesting stories about
his time there.
After
retirement
Hutch and Marilyn took
off in their pickup with
fifth-wheel
attached,
traveling across the coun-
try visiting family and
friends. They lived at
times in Oregon, Texas,
New Mexico, California,
and Missouri, until finally
settling in Sublimity. For
several years Hutch and
Marilyn were avid square
dancers. Hutch enjoyed
collecting stamps, assem-
bling puzzles, reading
westerns and Sudoku.
When someone asked
Marilyn why she first dat-
ed Hutch her answer was
“because he’s so funny”.
Hutch was known for his
sense of humor and posi-
tive outlook on life, and
will be missed by all who
knew and loved him.
James (Jim) Lorenzen

passed
away June
9 at the age
of 83. He
had been in declining
health in recent months.
Jim was born Nov. 3, 1932,
to Ted and Hazel Loren-
zen in Silverton. He grew
up on the family farm in
the Scotts Mills area. Jim
attended
Silverton
schools and went to Sil-
verton High School. He
spent his working years
as a commercial truck
driver. Jim had many
friends and always ran
into someone he knew
wherever he went. He re-
cently lost his wife Bever-
ly Lorenzen on May 17,
2016 and son Michael Rob-
ert Finley Lorenzen on
May 20, 2016. Jim is sur-
vived by sons Gary (Sue)
Lorenzen, Mike (Beth)
Myers and daughter Kar-
la (Greg) Bufka, six
grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
A Memorial service
will be 3 p.m. Friday, June
24, at at Emmanuel Bible
Church, 8512 Sunnyview
Road NE Salem. In lieu of
flowers donations can be
made to the Silverton
High School Alumni
Fund, 303 Oak St., Silver-

Timothy J. Molin
Feb. 19, 1948 — May 6,
2016
Timothy J. Molin, 68, of
Mt. Angel, died May 6,
2016, of kidney disease.
A celebration of life
was held May 14 at St.
Clare’s Parish in Portland.
Tim was born Feb. 19,
1948, in Portland to Bob
and Georgia Molin. Tim
was developmentally dis-
abled, but able in many
ways.
He attended Roeker
Day School and was a Cub
Scout. He lived at Fair-
view Training Center,
where he worked in the
canteen, and sang in the
choir. Tim eventually left
Fairview and lived in Sa-
lem and Portland, finally
calling Mt. Angel his
home.
He was active in the
community, helping at
Oktoberfest, volunteer-
ing at the Benedictine
nursing home and his fa-
vorite position, being a
“stand-by” fireman with
the Mt. Angel Fire De-
partment. He avidly lis-
tened to police and fire de-
partment calls on his ham
radio.
The Fire Department
befriended Tim and he al-
ways attended “drill
night” and events. We are
forever grateful to them
for their caring and kind-
ness to Tim.
Tim worked in a shel-
tered workshop assem-
bling hospital kits most of
his adult life. He retired
from this position in Octo-
ber 2015.
He is survived by his
father, Robert Molin, and
his sisters, MaryCarol
Molin, Beth Dahlgaard
and Roberta Miller, as
well as in-laws and numer-
ous nieces and nephews.
He attended weekly
Mass at St. Mary’s in Mt.
Angel. He is sorely
missed. Remembrances
can be made to Mt. Angel
Fire Department and Lin-
coln Group Home in Mt.
Angel.
Josephine DeGuire

13, 2016
Josephine DeGuire, 96,
passed away in Woodburn
on Monday, June 13, 2016.
She was born on April
27, 1920, to Pearl and Perle
Emily (Manning) Wood in
Silverton. Josephine lived
her life in the Silverton
area and had most recent-
ly moved to Woodburn
where she resided in the
Heritage House. Jo was a
member of the Silverton
First Christian Church.
She married Elbert De-
Guire in 1946. Josephine
enjoyed working in her
yard and reading. Jo had
worked for the Silverton
School District for many
years as a cook. She is pre-
ceded in death by her hus-
band, who passed away in
1988, and siblings, Lucille
and Ronald Wood.
Josephine is survived
by her daughter, Donna
(Jack) Antonson; grand-
children Jeff Nusbaum,
Todd Nusbaum and Debra
Kern; three great-grand-
children and her sister,
Imagine Wojick.
Private family ser-
vices are planned. Her
family would like to ex-
tend great thanks to the
wonderful care given by
the Heritage House in
Woodburn.

Larry was a gifted art-
ist with a heart of gold.
Blessed with a talent so
brilliant even his hand-
writing was a work of art,
he saw things with laser
focus. Painting, photogra-
phy, typography, writing,
graphic design or music,
his co-creations with God
were a blessing. He used
them to amaze and amuse
anyone fortunate enough
to share them. Larry
made a heart-print on ev-
eryone he met and his wit
and whimsy made us
laugh, while the beauty
and sensitivity of his soul
often brought us to tears.
Larry is survived by
his wife Julia “Judy” and
children Tara (Greg) Du-
benko, Tami Sprauer,
Tasha Kahn, Tina West,
Rick (Adria) Kassell, Mi-
cah (Maya Mori) Kassell,
16 grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. Sis-
ters: Donna (Jerry) Jans-
zen and Karen Eckley.
For each of us Larry
will be an eternal gift and
he will be missed more
than words can say.
A memorial service in
his honor will be 11 a.m.
