It would be tough to find a richer
taste of the comprehensive public-
safety realm than what folks will find
in Sublimity on Saturday.
For the 10th straight year, Sublimity
Fire District will host its annual “Public
Safety Fair” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat-
urday, June 4, at Sublimity Main Sta-
tion, 115 NW Parker St., and Early Set-
tlers Park. Nearly every aspect of pub-
lic-safety operations will be in exhibit,
from fire trucks to life flight – and it’s
all free.
“This event is always free to the
public,” Sublimity Fire District Office
Administrator Amy Doran noted. “It
features activities for kids and adults
and provides an opportunity for the
community to interact with public safe-
ty providers.”
Doran said highlights include a free
lunch, Life Flight and REACH landing
helicopters at the park between 11:30
a.m. and 2 p.m., and Marion County
Sheriff’s K-9 Unit live demonstration at
1 p.m. Organizers have sweetened the
free-lunch deal this year; in celebration
of its 10th year, cake will be added to
the menu.
“Attendees have the opportunity to
meet local volunteer firefighters from
Sublimity and neighboring districts, as
well as see the variety of equipment
first responders use on a daily basis,”
Doran said. “Kids can test their skills
on the Junior Firefighter Challenge
Course.”
In addition to those already men-
tioned, agencies include the Sheriff’s
Office SWAT, Traffic Team, Jeep Patrol
and Sublimity Command; Santiam Me-
morial Hospital and Ambulance; Fam-
ily Building Blocks; Pacific Power;
Farmers Insurance; METCOM 9-1-1;
Marion County Emergency Manage-
ment with Stayton CERT; Oregon Na-
tional Guard; Oregon Department of
Forestry; Oregon Impact; and Aums-
ville, Drakes Crossing and Jefferson
fire districts.
Agencies will provide safety in-
formation on a variety of topics, from
child safety to disaster preparedness.
Of course, scheduled times are approxi-
mations since emergency services
agencies can be called away at any
Attendees get an up-close look at the
