Paper
Since the mill of the Columbia
County lumber Co., at this place
wtt4 dynamited and burned about
a month ajro there ha boen much
gossip a.s to the perpetrators of
this dastardly crime. Kvery pos
sible thing has been done that
could have been; every clue has
been followed and th problem
remains unsolved. What the
motive could have been is a mys
tery, unions it was just plain un
dulterated anarchy, or spite, and
f such wan the caae. it will be
only a matter of time until the
man or men who touched off the
fuse that destroyed thousands of
dollar worth of property and put
a lartft' number of men out of
employment through the dyna
mite method, will bo caught and
punished. When they are caught
and convicted of the crime the
punishment should bo extreme
and no leniency sho n. The men
operating the mill at the timo pf
the fire, are all men of moderate
means and the stockholders were
mostly wne earner; it wa a
corporation whoso units were
mall stockholders and whose
wages hail been pqt into the
business in hope of providing a
t'teady income. The business
was a paying one to them and
they wire entitled to conduct
their bufinrss without molesta
tion on the part of some imagin
ary grievar.ee held by aome pert
ton or persons of anarchistic
belief. The crimo was one,
uch a was never heard of be
fore in St. Helens and of such
importance that the authorities
ihould use every effort In effect

County Court ahoutd tako part in
